Job DescriptionThis job requires relocation.Description\n\nPOSITION SUMMARY:\nThe Forensic Nurse Examiner (FNE) is responsible for providing and directing nursing care to sexual abuse/assault patients and child abuse/neglect patients. The Forensic Nurse Examiner supports the Program Coordinator in the management of the Forensic Nurse Examiner Program.\nKEY JOB DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:\nA. Utilizes specialized assessment skills in assessing apparent, predictable and potential needs of patients and families in basic and complex situations for a defined patient population. (E)\nB. Plans and documents comprehensive care in response to identified needs of patients and families throughout the continuum of care in collaboration with the health care team. (E)\nC. Provides delegates and/or assists others in delivering complex care to a defined patient population, demonstrates competency and excellence in nursing care. (E)\nD. Assesses potential discharge requirements throughout the course of care and takes a leadership role with the health care team to meet the patient’s needs. (E)\nE. Evaluates patient response to treatment throughout the continuum of care in complex and changing situations.\nF. Takes a leadership role in providing and assuring provision of education to patients, families, staff and the community. (E)\nG. Empowers patients and families to become involved in the planning, implementing and evaluating of care throughout the continuum of care. (E)\nH. Plans and anticipates admissions and transfers of patients, including appropriate patient placement. (E)\nI. Delivers a concise and accurate patient condition report. (E)\nJ. Works in collaboration with PFE Program Coordinator to enhance the program’s ability to meet patient’s and family’s needs. (E)\nK. K. Serves as a resource for other members of the health care team, and promotes collaborative practice on the unit. (E)\nL. Takes a leadership role in resolving program problems in collaboration with the Program Coordinator and other departments. (E)\nM. Participates in process improvement activities that result in improved patient outcomes. (E)\nN. Assists in the orientation of SANEs and Forensic Nurses through participation in staff development. (E)\nO. Provides testimony in legal proceedings.(E)\nP. Promotes effective communication and team building that is respectful and supports the dignity and self worth of patients, families and the health care team. (E)\nQ. Assists in establishing and maintaining standards of care for defined patient population.(E)\nR. Demonstrates competency to perform assigned patient care responsibilities in a manner that meets the age-specific and developmental needs of patients served by the program. (E)\nS. Appropriately adapts assigned patient assessment, treatment, and/or care methods to accommodate the unique physical, psychosocial, cultural, age-specific and other developmental needs of each patient served. (E)\nT. Takes personal responsibility to ensure compliance with all policies, procedures and standards as promulgated by state and federal agencies, the hospital, and other regulatory entities.\nU. Performs all duties in a manner that protects the confidentiality of patients and does not solicit or disclose any confidential information unless it is necessary in the performance of assigned job duties.\nV. Demonstrates adherence to the Mission, Vision and CORE values of CHRISTUS Santa Rosa Health Care. (E)\nW. Perform other related duties as assigned. (M)\nQUALIFICATIONS:\nA. EDUCATION:\n1. Graduate of a school of nursing\nB. EXPERIENCE:\n1. A minimum of two years clinical experience with at least one year pediatric experience, or FNE Coordinator/Administrative approval is required.\n2. A minimum of two years critical care clinical experience (ER, Labor & Delivery or ICU) experience, or FNE Coordinator / Administrative approval required.\nLICENSURE/CERTIFICATION:\n1. Must have a current license to practice professional nursing as an RN.\n2. Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) required.\n3. Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) required.\n4. Office of the Attorney General of the State of Texas CA-CP SANE Currency of Practice Certification required within 6 months of hire\n5. International Association of Forensic Nurses SANE-A Certification encouraged\n6. International Association of Forensic Nurses SANE- P Certification encouraged\n7. American College of Forensic Examiners International CFN Certification encouraged\n8. TNCC and ENPC encouraged\nWork Schedule:\nPRN\nWork Type:\nPer Diem As Needed
