Mechanical Box-Build TechnicianPosition Summary

The Mechanical Box-Build Technician is responsible for performing mechanical assembly, system integration, and basic to intermediate troubleshooting of electronic systems at the chassis, rack, and top-level assembly level. This role supports production builds, RMA rework, and debugging activities to ensure products are built to quality standards and delivered on schedule.

Key ResponsibilitiesAssembly & Build

• Perform box-build and mechanical assembly of electronic systems, including chassis, racks, enclosures, and sub-assemblies

• Interpret engineering drawings, bills of material, assembly instructions, and work orders

• Install mechanical and electro-mechanical components, including harnesses, fans, pumps, brackets, hardware, and enclosures

• Use hand tools, torque tools, measurement tools, and basic test equipment accurately and safely

• Ensure workmanship meets internal quality standards, ESD requirements, and applicable IPC standards

Debug & Troubleshooting

• Perform system-level troubleshooting on production and RMA units

• Identify mechanical and basic electrical issues, including harness faults, loose connections, improper assembly, and component failures

• Replace, repair, and reassemble defective or nonconforming parts

• Support functional testing and assist Manufacturing Engineering with failure analysis

• Document defects, findings, root causes, and corrective actions clearly and accurately

Testing & Verification

• Assist with system bring-up, validation, and final verification activities

• Use basic electrical test equipment, including continuity testers, multimeters, and ohm meters

• Verify completed systems meet build requirements and performance specifications prior to release

• Escalate recurring or complex issues to Manufacturing Engineering, Test, or Quality as needed

Material & Process Handling

• Inspect parts and materials prior to assembly to verify condition, fit, and integrity

• Follow proper material handling procedures, including ESD and MSD controls where applicable

• Maintain accurate build records, production documentation, and traceability requirements

• Follow established work instructions, safety procedures, and production processes

Communication & Support

• Communicate build status, issues, and escalations to the Production Supervisor and Manufacturing Engineering

• Work cross-functionally with Production, Test, Quality, and Engineering teams

• Support continuous improvement efforts related to build quality, efficiency, and process consistency

• Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area

QualificationsEducation & Experience

• High school diploma or equivalent required

• 2+ years of mechanical assembly, box-build, or system-level assembly experience in a manufacturing environment

• Experience with system debug, troubleshooting, or RMA repair preferred

Technical Skills

• Strong mechanical aptitude and understanding of assembly processes

• Ability to read and interpret drawings, BOMs, assembly instructions, and work orders

• Experience using hand tools, torque drivers, measurement tools, and basic test equipment

• Basic electrical troubleshooting skills, including continuity checks and resistance measurements

• Familiarity with ESD controls and production floor procedures

Other Skills

• Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills

• Good communication, documentation, and follow-up skills

• Ability to work in a fast-paced manufacturing environment

• Ability to follow detailed instructions and maintain quality standards

• Basic computer skills, including familiarity with Microsoft Office applications such as Excel and Word

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with server, rack-level, or high-performance compute system builds

• Experience with RMA processes, failure analysis, and repair documentation

• Familiarity with IPC-A-610 or other electronics manufacturing workmanship standards

• Experience working in aerospace, defense, medical, or other high-reliability manufacturing environments

• Experience supporting Class 3 or other high-reliability electronic assemblies

Work Environment

• Production floor environment, including ESD-controlled work areas

• Requires standing, walking, lifting, bending, and handling system-level hardware

• May require lifting or moving mechanical assemblies, chassis, or equipment with appropriate assistance or lifting devices

• Must follow all safety, quality, and material handling procedures

Pay Range

$27—$32 USD
