Robotic Algorithm and Controls Engineer

Intuitive Surgical

This position develops robotic algorithms and controls for the da Vinci Surgical System to enable safe and precise minimally invasive surgery. The engineer will optimize instrument motion performance, implement safety algorithms, collaborate across mechanical and software teams, and support regulatory approval processes.

Responsibilities

Develop and optimize teleoperated motion performance of robotic surgical instruments
Implement algorithms for new instrument features and assess technical feasibility with design teams
Perform risk analysis, document safety requirements, and support FDA regulatory submissions
Analyze field data to improve instrument performance and stability
Collaborate with manufacturing to develop testing fixtures and calibration specifications

Requirements

Knowledge of classical and modern servo control systems
Serial-arm robot kinematics expertise
C/C++ and MATLAB programming proficiency
Hardware, software, and mechanism integration skills
PhD preferred or MS with minimum 2 years robotics experience
Excellent written and verbal communication abilities
Ability to work independently and solve complex problems
