Health Care Facilities Office Surveyor – Independent Compensation: $34.96 per hour (Union 1199) Schedule: Full‑time, Monday to Friday, 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM Location: Health Department Building 246 North High Street, 1st Floor, Columbus, OH 43215 Primary Job Skill: Public Health Technical Skills: Inspection Principles, Interviewing, Regulatory Compliance, Investigation, Medical Terminology Professional Skills: Attention to Detail, Building Trust, Listening, Written Communication, Confidentiality Responsibilities Investigate and analyze complaints or incidents of unsatisfactory services by healthcare providers. Collect and classify clear, accurate personal demographic information from complainants. Review, assess, and analyze initial allegations and establish fact patterns using investigative techniques. Maintain confidentiality requirements (e.g., HIPAA) when handling complaint/incident information. Operate a personal computer to retrieve and enter information into federal and state complaint/incident tracking systems. Prepare comprehensive written reports summarizing complaints/incident. Prioritize and forward completed complaint/incident intake information to the appropriate location for continued processing. Utilize office equipment (e‑mail, fax, copier, scanner) to distribute documentation as necessary. Research relevant regulations and regulatory issues. Provide input to supervisors regarding procedures involving complaint unit processes. Prepare and deliver speeches to consumer and provider organizations. Attend surveys as an observer to maintain familiarity with the survey process when assigned. Respond to inquiries from the public, complainants, and facility representatives regarding the status of complaints/incident. May be assigned on a temporary basis to perform field‑surveyor assignments. Qualifications Certification, licensure, or registration in an assigned discipline (e.g., registered nurse; licensed dietician; licensed social worker; registered environmental health specialist; licensed nursing‑home administrator; licensed pharmacist; licensed physical/occupational/speech therapist). Minimum of 12 months experience conducting inspections of long‑term care or acute care providers and/or as a Health Care Facilities Field Surveyor (Entry). Successful completion of the Federal Surveyor Minimum Qualifications Test (SMQT). Ability to provide own transportation. Bachelor’s or advanced degree in the assigned discipline (preferred). Experience conducting healthcare facility surveys (nursing home, ICF/IID, residential care facility, hospital, hospice, HHA, life‑safety code, or clinical laboratory). Experience working with healthcare complaints. Experience with computer software (Word, Excel, ASPEN). Experience in technical report writing. Experience working in a nursing home, assisted living, or ICF/IID as a licensed healthcare professional. Experience in critical care, hospital, urgent care, or emergency department as a licensed healthcare professional. Experience in providing training and orientation to new employees or cross‑training established employees. Experience working in a fast‑paced, high‑volume environment. Training & Development Renewal of licensure/certification/registration pertinent to the assigned discipline as mandated by Ohio law. Unusual Working Conditions May require travel, including overnight stays.
