Senior Director, Global Medical Affairs, Oncology

Role Overview

The Global Medical Director at Moderna leads medical affairs strategy across the oncology portfolio, spanning from early development to commercialization. This high‑impact position requires strategic thinking, scientific storytelling, and matrix leadership to integrate medical governance and evidence planning worldwide.

Responsibilities

• Own and lead the global medical strategy for the oncology portfolio, ensuring seamless integration across all program phases.
• Serve as final medical accountability for assigned programs, delivering integrated medical plans.
• Drive medical leadership in governance bodies and cross‑functional forums, aligning development, regulatory, and commercial functions.
• Lead the Development Integrated Evidence Team to build data packages for regulators, payers, and stakeholders.
• Act as global medical lead in interactions with health authorities and payers, providing strategic medical input.
• Direct a cross‑functional global medical matrix team (Scientific Communications, Field Medical, Patient Advocacy) ensuring timely delivery.
• Lead global launch readiness of oncology assets, including medical training, evidence generation, scientific engagement, and narrative development.
• Build partnerships with global, regional, and national thought leaders to shape best practices and influence health policy.
• Develop and execute publication strategies, medical education initiatives, and real‑world evidence programs.
• Manage medical affairs budget and resource planning for assigned programs in alignment with broader franchise objectives.
• Partner with the VP, Oncology and cross‑functional stakeholders to shape long‑term medical direction and investment strategy.

Qualifications

• Basic Qualifications: MD, PharmD, or PhD with extensive oncology medical affairs leadership experience; minimum 15years in Medical Affairs, including global roles; deep expertise in oncology therapeutic area; proven global launch planning and execution; strategic thinking and leadership; experience in regulatory, scientific communication, and external stakeholder engagement.
• Preferred Qualifications: experience in melanoma and immunotherapy; strong track record of KOL engagement, scientific communication, and external representation; navigation of strategic external collaborations and cross‑company governance; cross‑functional team leadership (pharmacovigilance, biostatistics, clinical operations, regulatory affairs); operational mindset with project leadership; comfort managing cross‑functional deliverables and owning timelines; exceptional communication skills; ability to thrive in a fast‑paced environment.

Benefits & Pay

Salary range: $210,900.00 – $379,200.00. Eligible for discretionary bonus and equity award per company plan.
