Today SpaceX is actively developing the technologies to make this possible, with the ultimate goal of enabling human life on Mars.MANAGER, CONSTRUCTION As the Manager of Construction, you will own the responsibility of leading a technically excellent team to design and build office spaces across the globe. This leader will directly impact the foundation of the many SpaceX sites and work daily with executive-level staff. RESPONSIBILITIES: Manage a team of direct and indirect reports within the construction team, including but not limited to construction project engineers, MEP engineers, designers, architects, and other individuals supporting construction projectsCoordinate workload for individuals and steer prioritizationForecast and respond to construction project issues and escalationsInterface with senior leaders (VP/executive) and provide construction updatesImprove process planning by which construction projects are formulated, priced, approved, executed, and reviewed; implement full lifecycle improvements with the goal of providing on-time and under budget delivery with customer satisfactionPerform construction project management responsibilities as follows: Manage tools and folder systems relating to the organization of our construction projectsMeet with end users/customers to establish scope of workProvide budgetary cost based upon the preliminary scope of the projectGather proposals from architects, engineers and contractors, and assign contracts upon receipt of all proposalsDevelop the final cost and schedule for the project, and implement controls as needed to manage cost, schedule and scopeFacilitate city, county, governmental, and landlord approvals as applicableCoordinate project implementation, and track project statusVisually inspect to ensure the quality and workmanship of projectsManage contractor payments and lien releasesWork with the facilities team and end users in order to operationalize the post-construction building operations and maintenance functionsProvide closeout packages to the facilities teamMaintain “as-built” record plansTake on new projects ad-hoc as the business needs BASIC QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelor’s degree in an engineering discipline, construction management or architecture4+ years of professional experience in architecture, engineering, or construction managementExperience leading a team in construction PREFERRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE: 2+ years of leadership experience, either leading 10+ individuals and/or multi-discipline projects that involve direct and/or indirect reportsPrevious experience with project management and scheduling softwareProfessional Engineer (PE) licenseDesign experience in a technical fieldBasic proficiency with AutoCADKnowledge of processes of jurisdictional permitting and/or environmental agenciesUnderstanding of multiple disciplines such as civil, structural, mechanical, electrical, piping, geotechnical, and surveyingExperience with project management of major construction projects, including estimating, cost control, schedule, and contractor managementExperience reading, reviewing, and approving shop and fabrication drawings, blueprints, and technical manualsAbility to rapidly change roles/responsibilities, while maintaining a high sense of urgency in a high-paced, challenging work environmentAbility to work independently and in a team, take initiative, and communicate effectivelyConstruction cost estimate experience ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS: 75%+ travel required (domestic and international) based on specific project tasksPosition requires the ability to work extended hours and weekends when needed COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS:Pay Range:Level 1: $175,000 - $220,000Your actual level and base salary will be determined on a case-by-case basis and may vary based on the following considerations: job-related knowledge and skills, education, and experience.Base salary is just one part of your total rewards package at SpaceX. You may also be eligible for long-term incentives, in the form of company stock or long-term cash awards, as well as potential discretionary bonuses and the ability to purchase additional stock at a discount through an Employee Stock Purchase Plan.
