Job Title: Renovation Carpenter/Handyman
Job Description
This role focuses on exterior work at a residential complex, including patching stucco, replacing damaged wood components, and performing light painting to restore and refurbish building exteriors and vacant apartments.
Responsibilities

• Patch and repair exterior stucco surfaces to restore a clean and uniform appearance.
• Remove and replace damaged or deteriorated wood on building exteriors and related structures.
• Perform light painting, including surface preparation and touch-ups, to complete exterior repairs.
• Use hand and power tools safely and efficiently for carpentry and stucco repair tasks.
• Measure, cut, and install wood materials accurately using tape measures and other measuring tools.
• Assist with rough carpentry tasks, including framing and structural repairs as needed.
• Support finish carpentry tasks such as cabinetry and trim work when required.
• Prepare surfaces for painting, including scraping, sanding, and cleaning as needed.
• Work in teams of two to refurbish and repair vacant apartments and exterior areas.
• Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work area and follow all safety procedures.
• Communicate effectively with team members and supervisors to complete assignments on schedule.
• Bring and maintain appropriate wood, stucco, and painting tools required for the job.

Essential Skills

• Hands-on experience with stucco repair and patching on exterior surfaces.
• Carpentry skills, including rough carpentry and framing work.
• Ability to perform wood repairs and replacement on exterior structures.
• Proficiency with hand tools such as hammers, screwdrivers, chisels, and measuring tools.
• Proficiency with power tools commonly used in carpentry and stucco repair.
• Experience with wood and stucco repairs, including preparation and finishing.
• Ability to read and use a tape measure accurately for cutting and fitting materials.
• Capability to perform light painting and paint preparation tasks.
• Reliability, strong work ethic, and willingness to follow instructions and safety guidelines.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Experience in finish carpentry, including cabinetry and trim work, is a plus.
• Ownership of wood, stucco, and painting tools suitable for exterior repair work.
• Previous experience refurbishing apartments or residential units is beneficial.
• Willingness to learn new techniques and expand skills under guidance and training.
• Positive attitude and strong teamwork skills, especially when working in small crews.
• Flexibility to assist with a variety of carpentry, stucco, and painting tasks as needed.

Work Environment
This is a first-shift role, with hours from Monday through Friday, 7:45 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Work takes place on-site at a residential complex, primarily refurbishing vacant apartments and performing exterior repairs. You will work in teams of two, using a variety of hand and power tools for carpentry, stucco repair, and light painting. The environment involves active, hands-on work both indoors and outdoors, with an emphasis on safety, teamwork, and maintaining a professional appearance appropriate for a construction and refurbishment setting.
Job Type & Location
This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Costa Mesa, CA.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $23.00 - $24.00/hr.
Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
