Job Description and Duties

Recondition, diagnose, repair and test emergency lighting and siren systems, including light bar and deck light configurations designed with advanced lighting and sound technologies, which use processor controlled circuit boards and inter-members with other processors within the emergency vehicle. When the systems fail or they have been returned from the field, the ET is responsible for testing the electronic circuits with electronic devices and must repair or replace them prior to placing them back in service. Assist engineering staff in diagnosing malfunctioning alternating headlight systems, radio, sirens, antennas, voice recognition, heads up displays, license plate reader systems, mobile video and audio recording systems, automated citation systems and other electronic systems incorporated in the Department's enforcement vehicles. Assist engineering staff in providing technical support for field automotive technicians and Department of General Services radio technicians with emergency lighting system problems and other electronic systems incorporated in the Department's enforcement vehicles. Keep records and databases and assist the engineering staff in the inventory, purchasing, shipping, and tracking of all emergency warning light system parts and other electronic systems incorporated in the Department's enforcement vehicles distributed throughout the Department and within the section. Sort all used emergency warning light systems and other electrical components received from the used vehicle operations in West Sacramento and Torrance; palletize and distribute to the Supply Services Unit warehouse for eventual refurbishment and reuse.

Working Conditions

The Electronics Technician works in an automotive shop environment, and at times in extreme temperatures outdoors in a paved parking area.

  • The position(s) require(s) a Background Investigation be cleared prior to being hired.

Desirable Qualifications

In addition to evaluating each candidate's relative ability, as demonstrated by quality and breadth of experience, the following factors will provide the basis for competitively evaluating each candidate:

Would be able to lift 60 pounds in weight, be able to work in varying, and sometimes extreme temperatures, and have strong interpersonal/verbal communication skills; and good attendance and punctuality.
