Overview

The Work

The Systems Administrator, Junior will administer and manage computer systems in a classified and secure environment. This position will play a key role in supporting a variety of IT projects and system functions, including monitoring and maintaining operating systems and hardware, diagnosing technical issues, and providing proactive solutions.

Responsibilities

Key Responsibilities

• System Monitoring and Maintenance:
  • Monitor and control computer operating systems, including Windows or UNIX-based systems such as Linux or Solaris, ensuring their optimal performance and uptime.
  • Perform regular preventive maintenance to enhance system reliability and minimize downtime.
• Troubleshooting and Diagnostics:
  • Analyze system faults to identify issues and recommend solutions.
  • Conduct root-cause analysis and diagnostic testing on operating systems and hardware to detect and resolve performance problems or system malfunctions.
• Software Installation and Testing:
  • Evaluate and install developed software at various stages of testing implementation while ensuring full system compatibility.
  • Perform thorough reviews and document results of system tests and software installations to ensure accuracy and transparency.
• Technical Analysis and Problem Solving:
  • Investigate and recommend effective methods and techniques for problem identification, resolution, and system improvement.
  • Identify risks and provide input on potential mitigations through documented analysis and testing.
• Systems Administration Support:
  • Administer and support systems and environmental solutions for multiple concurrent projects, aligning efforts with project schedules and milestones.
  • Provide support for system upgrades, migrations, and integration with minimal disruption to users or operations.
  • Interface with vendors for escalating unresolved issues or coordinating hardware and software repairs under warranty or service level agreements.
• Documentation and Reporting:
  • Prepare and update system designs, user guides, and test documentation as required by project deliverables or operational needs.
  • Ensure all documentation adheres to internal policies and meets government standards and expectations.

Qualifications

Qualifications – Here’s What You Need

• Bachelor’s degree in computer science, information systems, or related field, or equivalent professional experience (less than 2 years).
• Foundational knowledge of system administration, basic troubleshooting, and familiarity with operating systems such as Windows, Linux, or Solaris.
• possessing or obtaining a relevant Information Assurance (IA) certification, such as:
  • CompTIA Security+
  • CompTIA A+
  • Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP)

• Top-Secret Clearance is required.

• Must be able to pass a background check. May require additional background checks as required by projects and/or clients at any time during employment.

Minimum Skills:

• Exceptional verbal and written communication skills.
• Excellent organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills with high-level attention to detail.
• Proven ability to multitask and prioritize in a fast past environment with changing priorities; adaptable to change and a quick learner.
• Must be self-motivated and able to work well independently as well as on a multi-functional team.
• Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information appropriately
• Proficient in MS Office, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, and Excel.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Knowledge of basic network and system configurations.
• Familiarity with virtualization technologies, such as VMware or Hyper-V.
• Basic understanding of cybersecurity practices and Department of Defense (DoD) information systems policies and standards.
• Excellent communication and documentation skills.

Reports to: Program Manager

Working Conditions 

• Professional office environment, with the ability to work onsite in the main office.
• Must be physically and mentally able to perform duties extended periods of time.
• Ability to use a computer and other office productivity tools with sufficient speed to meet the demands of this position.
• May require lifting and moving hardware equipment weighing up to 50 pounds.
• Some tasks may involve standing, bending, or working in confined technical spaces.
• Must be able to establish a productive and professional workspace.
• Must be able to sit for long periods of time looking at computer screen.
• May be asked to work a flexible schedule which may include holidays.
• May be asked to travel for business or professional development purposes.
• May be asked to work hours outside of normal business hours.
