Communications Coordinator

Oversees and implements the City’s communications efforts by developing messages, managing content, and communicating effectively and creatively both internally and externally in accordance with the City's strategic plan and organizational goals. Responsibilities Develops and manages citywide communications and messaging for various media outlets such as the City newsletters, City website, community television programming, and social media to effectively engage and educate the public. Leads, develops and executes communications strategies through collaboration with City’s leadership team; works collaboratively with departments to develop and implement communications strategies and messaging consistent with the City's goals and objectives. Manages the City’s interaction with news media, prepares news releases in coordination with department(s), and responds to media inquiries. Assists City departments in planning and executing communications and public relations efforts. Supports and advises City departments on email, social media, web and video marketing strategies to increase program participation and brand identification. Produces and supports internal communications efforts. Creates and designs various materials for both print and digital collateral utilizing Adobe InDesign and Canva. Manages the City-wide editorial calendar. Oversees the functionality of the City website, evaluates and manages website performance, and develops and maintains website content; assists staff to develop and maintain department-level pages. Oversees and develops the production and distribution of various video productions on WCTV. Leads all maintenance, improvements, and training for the Council Chambers AV system and the AV room cable/production equipment. Evaluates and implements new digital communication methods to better achieve City goals, including supporting organizational values, and marketing City services to residents, community groups and other external organizations. Organizes and maintains a video, photographic, and electronic media library. Ensures compliance with social media standards, records retention, and the Minnesota Data Practices Act. Coordinates contracts with consultants as needed for communications assistance. Manages the City’s branding guidelines. Helps plan and determine budget priorities for the Communications department. Occasional attendance at night meetings and weekend work is required. Plans and coordinates major City events including the Volunteer Appreciation Dinner, Light Up the Lake, and State of the City. Assists with the coordination of the City Wellness Committee, Employee Engagement Committee, and the Panoway District Committee. Performs other related duties as assigned. Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in communications, journalism, marketing, or a related field Three years of experience in communications, community or public relations, graphic design, marketing or a related field Experience working with technology and websites open source (WordPress) and content management systems (CMS) (CivicPlus) Experience using desktop publishing software Adobe Creative Suite or Photoshop and InDesign Microsoft Office Suite and Adobe Acrobat experience Valid Driver’s License Preferred Qualifications Master’s degree in communication, public administration, or a related field Five years of experience in communications, community or public relations, graphic design, marketing or a related field Three years of municipal experience Two years broadcast recording equipment experience Continual Membership to Minnesota Association of Government Communicators #J-18808-Ljbffr Wayzata, City of (MN)
