Director of Philanthropy

The client is seeking a Director of Philanthropy, a senior development leader responsible for growing and managing the organization’s individual giving program. Reporting to the Chief Development Officer, the role develops and executes strategies to identify, cultivate, solicit, and steward donors across annual giving, major gifts, planned giving, leadership giving, donor stewardship, and tax credit giving initiatives, including support for giving through Donor-Advised Funds and family foundations. This hands-on position blends strategic leadership with frontline fundraising, including donor relationship management, proposal and fundraising communications writing, and stewardship activities. The Director will lead multi-channel fundraising campaigns (such as direct mail, email appeals, Giving Tuesday, and year-end giving), monitor performance, and optimize results to achieve ambitious fundraising goals. The role also includes managing and expanding a leadership giving society through targeted cultivation, recognition, stewardship, and donor engagement strategies, as well as increasing participation in the EITC/tax credit giving program through outreach, education, and targeted marketing efforts. Key responsibilities include identifying, cultivating, soliciting, and stewarding major gift prospects; preparing proposals and stewardship plans in partnership with organizational leadership; growing planned giving through legacy giving education; and developing comprehensive donor stewardship and communications strategies to strengthen relationships, improve retention, and demonstrate impact. The candidate will bring a bachelor’s degree and progressive fundraising experience (typically 5 to 8+ years) with strong strategy and execution in individual giving, annual giving, major gifts, and planned giving, along with excellent written and verbal communication skills, relationship-building abilities, project management strengths, and experience managing donor data. The role is expected to comply with applicable requirements, and the client requires Act 33/34 and FBI clearances, a valid Pennsylvania driver’s license, and that the candidate be at least 21 years of age.
