Human Resources Director

The Director of Human Resources will own and lead the HR function for an organization growing rapidly through acquisition. This is a senior leadership role for an experienced HR operator who has built and scaled people functions at multi-site, M&A-driven organizations – someone who has done this before and can run it independently.
We are looking for someone who brings a strategic and operational HR mindset to the role. That means thinking like a business partner while also being willing to get into the details – from designing integration playbooks to making sure payroll runs clean across every entity.
The ideal candidate has owned HR integration across multiple acquired companies, consolidated payroll and benefits programs, and partnered directly with executive leadership on people strategy. This person is equally comfortable designing the strategy and executing it themselves.
Responsibilities
- HR Operations & Systems
- Own the day-to-day administration of HR systems and employee records.
- Maintain clean, accurate, and complete employee data across HR, payroll, benefits, and related platforms.
- Build and improve scalable HR processes for a growing, multi-location organization.
- Create and maintain standard operating procedures for core HR workflows.
- Ensure employee changes, new hires, terminations, pay updates, title changes, and manager changes are accurately reflected in the system.
- Ensure payroll is processed timely and accurately.
- Regularly audit employee data for accuracy and completeness.
- Partner with leadership to improve reporting, visibility, and accountability around workforce data.
- Manager & Employee Support
- Serve as the senior HR resource for center directors, school operators, and corporate employees.
- Coach and hold managers accountable to consistent HR practices across all locations.
- Own complex employee relations matters, working directly with legal counsel when appropriate.
- Lead performance management processes, documentation, and employee communications across the organization.
- Drive a culture of accountability, professionalism, and care across a rapidly growing, decentralized workforce.
- Acquisition & Integration Support
- Lead end-to-end HR due diligence and integration for all acquisitions, including workforce risk assessment, benefits and compensation analysis, compliance review, and post-close integration planning.
- Consolidate newly acquired workforces onto unified payroll, benefits, and HRIS platforms.
- Own the transition of acquired employees into Sunrise systems, policies, payroll, and benefits programs.
- Identify and remediate gaps in employee records, compliance documentation, and HR practices at acquired locations.
- Build and continuously refine a repeatable HR integration playbook as the platform scales.
Qualifications
- At least 3–5 years in a senior HR leadership role at a M&A-active company.
- Demonstrated experience leading HR integration across multiple acquired companies, including payroll consolidation, benefits harmonization, and HRIS migration.
- Deep expertise in HRIS, payroll, benefits administration, multi-state compliance, and workforce risk management.
- Experience managing and developing an HR team in a decentralized, multi-location environment.
- Ability to develop and present HR dashboards and KPIs to executive leadership and PE sponsors.
- Experience with workers’ compensation, EPLI, general liability, and benefits claims management.
- Highly organized, execution-focused, and comfortable operating with a high degree of autonomy.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to influence at all levels of the organization.
- High degree of ownership, follow-through, discretion, and confidentiality.
- Experience with ADP Workforce Now strongly preferred
- New York preferred but not required for the right candidate.
