Tarisio is the leading international venue for fine instruments and bows. Launched in 1999, Tarisio revolutionized the market by combining first-class expertise, the efficiency of online bidding, and a firm commitment to ethics and professionalism. Our goal is to make buying and selling instruments increasingly accessible for musicians, patrons, dealers and collectors. We have offices in New York, London and Berlin, and conduct seven auctions per year as well as year round private sales of high value items, selling more than 3,000 fine instruments and bows annually to a truly global market.

The Shipping Assistant supports the secure intake, handling, documentation, and movement of high-value string instruments and related property throughout the auction and sales lifecycle. Working closely with and reporting to the Logistics Manager, this role coordinates domestic and international shipping, maintains accurate property records, and supports auction preparation and vault organization. The Shipping Assistant plays a critical role in protecting assets, ensuring documentation accuracy, and supporting smooth logistical operations in a fast-paced, detail-driven environment.

Key Responsibilities

• Receive, unpack, and log incoming instruments and property, creating accurate intake and shipment records under the direction of the Logistics Manager
• Inspect items for shipping damage, photograph issues, and escalate concerns to the Logistics Manager and relevant teams
• Create and maintain property records, including labeling, documentation, and database entry
• Prepare instruments and related materials for photography, storage, vetting, and auction display
• Coordinate domestic and international shipping, including packing, documentation, customs declarations, and regulatory requirements
• Prepare and manage import/export documentation
• Track outbound shipments, follow up on shipping issues, and maintain shipment-out records
• Respond to client and internal inquiries related to shipping and logistics, escalating complex issues as needed
• Support auction preparation, including vault and gallery organization, inventory tracking, and documentation management
• Maintain shipping supplies, storage areas, humidification equipment, and shipping/receiving operations
• Provide general operational support across the office as directed.

The ideal candidate is highly organized, detail-oriented, and dependable, with the ability to manage sensitive, high-value items and complex logistics with care and precision. They work effectively under the guidance of the Logistics Manager while also operating independently to troubleshoot issues and meet deadlines. Calm under pressure and clear in communication, they bring strong organizational skills, sound judgment, and a collaborative approach to supporting operational priorities.

Knowledge, Skills and Experience

• 1+ years of experience in shipping, logistics, inventory management, art handling or other related field
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
• Highly organized, detail-oriented, and ability to prioritize, multi-task, and deal with high-volume situations
• Proficiency with Mac systems, Google Workspace and database or inventory systems
• Must be able to lift 20 - 40 lbs
• Experience with or an understanding of stringed instruments is a plus
