Application Architect

The Application Architect is a senior-level technology role responsible for defining, designing, and governing application architectures across complex enterprise systems. This role ensures that application solutions are scalable, secure, high-performing, and aligned with business objectives and enterprise architecture standards. The architect works closely with stakeholders, product owners, development teams, and infrastructure partners to deliver robust application solutions.

Location: Toronto, Canada or Charlotte, North Carolina, USA

Salary Range: market rates

Duration: 12 Months

Required Skills & Qualifications:

• Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to present ideas clearly to senior leadership
• Good architecture skills, including UML, Visio, and PPT
• Hands-on coding experience to perform Proof of Concepts (POCs)

Preferred Skills & Qualifications:

• TOGAF or similar architecture framework knowledge
• Experience with UX/UI architecture collaboration
• Domain experience in financial services
• Architecture certifications or cloud certifications

Day-to-Day Responsibilities:

• Design and own end-to-end application architecture for large-scale, complex systems
• Translate business requirements into technical architecture and solution designs
• Define application standards, patterns, and best practices
• Ensure application designs align with enterprise architecture, security, and compliance requirements
• Lead architecture reviews and provide technical guidance to development teams
• Evaluate and recommend new technologies, tools, and frameworks
• Collaborate with infrastructure, DevOps, security, and data architecture teams
• Support cloud, hybrid, and on-premises application architectures
• Identify and mitigate technical risks and architectural gaps
• Mentor junior architects and senior developers
• Participate in system integration, modernization, and migration initiatives
