General Description:
Put your craftsmanship and construction expertise to work maintaining and preserving facilities that serve the people of Wyoming. This position performs highly skilled carpentry work and leads a variety of construction, renovation, repair, and maintenance projects that ensure state-owned buildings remain safe, functional, and visually appealing.
Working independently and as a project leader, you will complete and oversee routine and complex carpentry projects involving building structures, finishes, fixtures, and related components. Your work will directly support Wyoming's elected officials, state employees, customers, and visitors by maintaining facilities that are secure, efficient, and welcoming.
In addition to construction and maintenance responsibilities, this position plays an important role in preserving the historical character and aesthetic quality of state facilities. Success in this role requires technical expertise, attention to detail, sound judgment, and a commitment to quality workmanship. Through your efforts, you will help protect valuable public assets while ensuring state facilities continue to serve Wyoming residents for years to come.

Essential Functions:
- Repairs, constructs, and maintains the State-owned and operated facilities or all of the Capitol complex and Cheyenne buildings controlled by the Department of Administration and Information, including some leased buildings.
- Responsible for building and facility interior components, including floors, window coverings, blinds, walls, non-structural walls and cubicles, doors, ceilings, and furniture.
- Exterior components such as roofing, exterior walls, doors, windows, and stone and masonry veneers.
- Maintains roof drains, downspouts, gutters, drain scuppers, and flashing.
- Maintains wood, metal, and masonry fences and non-electronic gates.
- Repair, replace, and maintain cast-in-place concrete sidewalks, parking areas, and concrete subfloors.
- Plans calculate requirements, has knowledge of the pertaining building code, and completes a variety of construction tasks, including wood and metal framing of ceilings, floors, and walls, both structural and nonstructural.
- Installs and repairs gypsum board, fire tape finish, and texture.
- Installs and repairs wooden or metal doorframes, doors, jambs, casing, and hardware.
- Installs and repairs flooring, including carpet, wood, tile, and vinyl.
- Installs ceiling systems to include suspended, fire-rated, direct-glue, wood, and specialty.
- Maintains the waterproofing and caulking sealants on expansion joints and weather stripping.
- Collaborates with the locksmith to provide assistance in inspecting, adjusting, and maintaining locks, kick plates, door sweeps, closers, operators, weather stripping, exit devices, and thresholds on all state facilities. Inventory, clean, and maintain all hand tools and power tools to maximize their safety and efficiency. Inventory and maintain a supply of basic building materials.
- Provide services to all State employees to personalize and maintain State-owned furnishings in their offices or cubicle space, along with designing and constructing office accessories to accommodate employee needs.
- Install partition walls and components to create cubicle walls, know, and understand the ADA code and fire code pertaining to such.
- Design and construct picture and poster frames.
- Safely hang pictures, diplomas, posters, and various items. Hang and install artwork and bronze building plaques, and build displays for artwork and antiques. Safely hang screens, monitors, Smartboards, T.Vs, display cabinets, and shadow boxes.
- Assist other crafts and crews.
- Erect pre-built scaffolding and design and construct built-in-place scaffolds and work platforms as required by job duties of all crafts.
- Move furniture and office equipment to perform daily duties and relocate employees when needed.
- Assists in snow removal during blizzards or when other crews are not available.
- Demolishes and reconstructs areas to gain access to equipment, components, and utilities.
- Assists in the emergency cleanup from roof leaks, broken pipes, and storm damage.
- Creates drawings or plans to design and construct custom furnishings and products, along with materials and cost estimates to complete the projects.
- Customizes or alters existing furnishings to better meet the customers' needs.
- Designs and constructs custom cabinetry, casework, shelving, and furniture.
- After-hours emergency repair and maintenance.
- Performs emergency work as needed after hours to prevent monetary loss to the State of Wyoming, including but not limited to door repair, window repair, flood cleanup, lock and hardware repair, wind and storm damage, and vandalism repair.
- Overlooks the workmanship and the performance of subcontractors working on the state facilities.
- Assists in writing scopes of work for subcontractors, material specifications, scheduling projects, meeting subcontractors to assess jobs, answer estimators' questions or concerns.
- Assist project managers in overseeing, receiving, and assessing estimates.
- Maintain notes, schedule, and information on AIM and the facilities management software used.
- Recording information such as daily schedule of work, time spent on tasks, work orders, customer requests, job costs, photos, and plans, as well as a record of communication between customers, other trades staff, or subcontractors pertaining to that project or task.
Qualifications
Knowledge:
- Applies and has basic knowledge of the use, application, and safety of various paints, stains, and finishes to existing surfaces within the facilities, including the finishes on doors, walls, windows, furniture, ceilings, and woodwork of all types.
- Has knowledge of relating to building codes, maintaining, and installing handrails and guardrails on stairs and elevated areas such as docks, porches, decks, landings, and roofs.
Minimum Qualifications:
Education: Bachelor's Degree
Experience: 0-1 year of progressive work experience (typically in Carpentry) with acquired knowledge at the level of a Carpenter OR
Education & Experience Substitution: 3-4 years of progressive work experience (typically in Carpentry) with acquired knowledge at the level of a Carpenter

Physical Working Conditions:
- Must be able to drive vehicles and operate all tools and equipment.
- Ability to lift 50 pounds.
- Must be able to work outside in all weather conditions
- Ability to work in tight, confined spaces
- Ability to work comfortably at a variety of heights
- Ability to walk great distances throughout the facility
