Job Description

Lead and coordinate daily activities in a CNC machine shop while remaining hands-on in production. Serve as the primary technical resource for machinists and operators, supporting complex machining operations on a wide range of CNC and manual equipment. Drive process improvements, ensure adherence to aerospace quality standards, and develop innovative tooling and fixturing solutions for new and existing components.

Responsibilities

• Lead day-to-day operations of the CNC machine shop while actively participating in production work.
• Serve as the primary technical resource for machinists and operators, providing guidance on setups, operations, and problem-solving.
• Set up, operate, and support 3-, 4-, and 5-axis machining centers, horizontal machining centers, CNC lathes, Swiss-type CNC machines, grinders, saws, and manual machine tools.
• Perform machine setups, prove-outs, and troubleshooting to ensure stable, repeatable, and efficient production processes.
• Optimize tooling, cutting parameters, and processes to improve cycle times, tool life, and part quality.
• Read and interpret G-code and M-code and perform machine-side program edits, including adjustments to feeds, speeds, offsets, and tooling.
• Partner with Engineering, Programming, and Quality teams to support prototype builds, development work, and new product introduction activities.
• Support AS9100 and customer quality requirements, including first article inspections and participation in corrective action activities.
• Design, build, modify, and validate custom fixtures, soft jaws, workholding devices, toolholders, fixture plates, spacers, bushings, and other manufacturing aids.
• Develop creative tooling and workholding solutions for new aerospace components where no established manufacturing process exists.
• Collaborate with Engineering to ensure tooling and fixturing meet dimensional requirements, repeatability, process capability, and production scalability.
• Use precision measurement tools to verify part conformance and support continuous improvement of machining processes.
• Mentor, train, and develop machinists and operators, promoting a culture of safety, quality, accountability, and continuous learning.
• Ensure safe work practices and compliance with OSHA standards throughout the machine shop.
• Support and contribute to documentation, process standardization, and adherence to AS9100/ISO 9001 systems.

Essential Skills

• with the ability to set up and operate 3-, 4-, and 5-axis machining centers and 4-axis horizontal machining centers.
• Ability to read and interpret G-code and M-code and perform machine-side program edits, including feeds, speeds, offsets, and tooling changes.
• Proficiency with CNC equipment utilizing Haas, Mazak, Fanuc, Hurco, or similar controls.
• Strong understanding of GD&T, blueprint interpretation, tooling, fixturing, and machining processes.
• Knowledge and practical use of precision measurement equipment, including micrometers, calipers, height gauges, gauge pins, and gauge blocks.
• Minimum 5 years of machining experience.
• Experience in aerospace manufacturing and familiarity with AS9100 and ISO 9001 quality systems.
• Demonstrated ability to design and develop tooling, fixtures, and workholding solutions for complex parts.
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing high-quality work.
• Safety-conscious behavior and adherence to safe work practices.
• Eligibility for any required authorization from the U.S. Government for access to export control information.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent.
• Trade school certification in machining or a related field is a plus.
• Mastercam CAD/CAM experience.
• SolidWorks experience for tooling and fixturing design is highly beneficial.
• CMM programming experience, including use of CMM Manager.
• Experience supporting prototype, development, and new product introduction activities.
• Previous experience mentoring or training machinists and operators.
• Strong communication and collaboration skills for working with Engineering, Programming, and Quality teams.

Work Environment

This role is based in a manufacturing setting that may occasionally expose you to heat, cold, and wet conditions. You will regularly move around the facility and may be required to sit, stand, bend, and reach throughout the shift. The position requires the ability to lift and carry up to 40 pounds and comply with OSHA standards. You will work around CNC machining centers, lathes, grinders, saws, and manual machine tools, using precision measurement equipment and shop tooling in a hands-on, production-oriented environment.

This is a Permanent position based out of Goldsboro, NC.

The pay range for this position is $72800.00 - $85300.00/yr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.

This is a fully onsite position in Goldsboro,NC.
