HireIQ Solutions is leading the search for a Field Service Technician III at a US manufacturer of engineered-to-order HVAC and thermal management systems serving mission-critical and commercial/industrial environments. The company designs and builds highly customized equipment for data centers, cleanrooms, laboratories, surgical centers, and other complex commercial and industrial facilities, and continues to invest in field service capability as its installed base grows.

About the Role

This is an OEM field service subject matter expert role, not a contractor break-fix job. The Field Service Technician III provides advanced technical support, diagnostics, installation, maintenance, and repair of HVAC equipment at customer sites nationwide, and works independently to resolve complex mechanical, electrical, refrigeration, and controls issues with minimal supervision.

The role leads commissioning and startup on new equipment installations and major system upgrades, mentors Field Service Technician I and II team members, participates in warranty investigations and corrective action reviews, and collaborates directly with engineering, manufacturing, product support, and warranty teams. It also supports field testing and validation of new products and represents the company during customer escalations and high-priority service events. There is no residency requirement — because of the travel load, the technician may live anywhere in the US.

Key Responsibilities

• Perform advanced installation, startup, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of HVAC systems and related equipment.
• Diagnose and resolve complex mechanical, electrical, refrigeration, and controls-related issues with minimal supervision.
• Lead commissioning and startup activities for new equipment installations and major system upgrades.
• Serve as a technical resource for other field service technicians and internal support teams.
• Conduct advanced system performance evaluations and recommend corrective actions to optimize equipment operation.
• Analyze recurring service issues and assist in identifying root causes and long-term corrective solutions.
• Collaborate with engineering, manufacturing, product support, and warranty teams to resolve complex field concerns.
• Participate in warranty investigations and corrective action reviews.
• Support field testing and validation of new products and engineering improvements.
• Mentor and provide technical guidance to less experienced field service technicians.
• Maintain detailed service reports, customer documentation, and technical records.
• Support customer training on equipment operation, preventative maintenance, and troubleshooting procedures.
• Assist in development of service procedures, training materials, and technical documentation.
• Represent the company during customer escalations and high-priority service events.
• Ensure compliance with all safety standards, regulatory requirements, and customer site protocols.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.

• 6+ years of experience in HVAC service, field service, industrial maintenance, or a related technical field — or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

• Advanced knowledge of HVAC systems, refrigeration systems, controls, electrical systems, and mechanical equipment.

• Expertise in troubleshooting and resolving complex equipment and system issues.

• Strong understanding of building automation systems, controls, and communication protocols.

• Ability to read and interpret complex wiring diagrams, control schematics, and technical documentation.

• Strong analytical, diagnostic, and problem-solving capabilities.

• Excellent customer service and relationship management skills, with effective verbal and written communication.

• Ability to manage multiple service priorities and work independently in the field.

• Ability to mentor and develop less experienced technicians.

• Preferred: associate degree, technical degree, or vocational training in HVAC, electrical systems, mechanical systems, or a related discipline.

• Preferred: EPA Universal Certification.

• Preferred: industry certifications related to HVAC, controls, refrigeration, or building automation systems.

• Preferred: hands-on experience with commercial HVAC equipment, controls, and building automation systems.

Work Environment & Physical Requirements

• Work is performed primarily at customer sites, commercial facilities, industrial operations, and construction locations.

• Frequent travel required, including overnight travel as business needs dictate. This is a travel-heavy role.

• Regular exposure to varying weather conditions, temperature extremes, dust, noise, and mechanical equipment.

• Exposure to energized electrical systems, refrigeration equipment, moving machinery, and industrial environments.

• Frequent standing, walking, climbing, bending, kneeling, and working around operating equipment.

• Ability to lift, carry, push, or pull up to 50 lbs. regularly.

• Ability to work at heights, in confined spaces, and in varying environmental conditions.

• Ability to sit and drive for extended periods while traveling to customer locations.

• Use of personal protective equipment as required by company and customer safety standards.

• Classified as a safety-sensitive position.
