Senior Project Manager - Baggage Handling Systems

We are seeking a Senior Project Manager (SPM) for the Centralized Checked Baggage System (CCBS) project at Tampa International Airport. The program, estimated at $300 million, will replace much of the existing baggage system in the main terminal and extend the system to a new 16‑gate concourse, with completion scheduled for 2030. Primary Responsibilities Oversees and monitors the contractual performance of the design‑builder’s BHS subcontractor and enables clearance of the rights‑of‑way for the new system. Manages coordination of work between the BHS subcontractor and Airport Operations staff, ensuring continuous BHS services throughout construction. Reviews implementation plans and schedules for safety and operational issues. Monitors the subcontractor’s submittals and requests for information. Reviews and evaluates proposed change claims submitted by the subcontractor. Checks that utility outages are properly coordinated, safely executed, and completed per the agreed schedule. Prepares weekly and monthly progress reports and briefs senior Airport representatives. Assesses construction progress, reviews monthly payment requests, and recommends changes and approvals. Tracks schedule updates from the design builder and discusses mitigation actions with the subcontractor. Monitors the subcontractor’s use of contingency and allowance funds and conducts monthly risk assessments. Supports processing of change requests through technical, commercial, and schedule reviews of the subcontractor’s requests and designer’s direction. Attends weekly progress meetings and special sessions to discuss specific project issues. Provides subject‑matter expertise for a wide range of BHS issues and participates in problem solving and value engineering exchanges. Tracks daily reports and monitors corrective actions to meet design and quality requirements. Participates in the coordination of equipment commissioning activities and TSA acceptance tests. Supports the Airport’s construction safety program. Identifies upcoming Airport decisions and coordinates the analysis and information needed to support these decisions. Reports directly to the assigned PMCM Senior Construction Manager with a dotted line to the Airport’s BHS SME. Requirements Minimum of 10 years of experience working on installation, maintenance, and/or operations of an airport baggage handling system (BHS) or similar industrial conveyance system, with at least 5 years in a management role. Proven ability to manage a team responsible for delivering a project/program with cost, quality, schedule, and safety performance requirements. Experience setting priorities, solving problems, reacting to changed conditions, and mitigating conflicts. Positive attitude, ability to balance construction progress with safety and operational issues, and clear communication with multiple stakeholders. Preferred experience managing the installation of a replacement BHS at a large commercial airport. Position requires working at Tampa Airport 5 days a week. Benefits The base salary range for this position is $170,000.00 to $190,000.00, with pay determined by location and experience.
