The Impact You’ll Make in this Role
Assistant Manager of Security is responsible for scheduling first-aid, CPR training and any other training to enhance the Security department’s performance. This also includes the testing and maintenance of alarm and camera systems. May also perform the duties and essential functions of a Security Officer and is expected to use their guest experience and proven ability to work at a higher level of performance, independence and is able to lead other employees during times of emergency. The Assistant Manager of Security will perform the duties of Manager in the absence of the Security Manager.

• Assist with training new hire employees in proper use of keys to, lock and unlock of service gates and gates on interior/exterior of zoo.
• Ensure that all fire extinguishers are inspected annually and oversee Fire Extinguisher Training annually.
• Assist with training on proper response to calls for assistance and all emergency codes, including, performing first-aid and CPR if necessary.
• Provide verbal information to relief Security Officers.
• Inspect Daily Activity Reports and enter information from all shifts into the Security log, especially incidents and accidents.
• Inspect and ensure security keys and equipment daily to ensure that they are intact and in the proper order.
• Inspect fire extinguishers for charge level, location, and ease of access; take corrective action as required; and report findings to appropriate supervisor.
• Inspect construction sites to assure protective barriers are in place and no obvious public safety hazards exist.
• Respond to calls for assistance from the public and employees including emergency response injury codes.
• Perform first aid and CPR as necessary.
• Complete investigations as directed by the Manager of Security. Monitor any protests against the Zoo.
• Assist with training and driving Shuttle.
• Check Camera and alarm systems for proper working order.
• Conduct all perimeter gate audits on a regular basis.
• Prepare accident reports legibly and in a timely manner.
• Must maintain a friendly working environment for security officers, leadership team, departments and able to provide optimal guest service during all work related situations.
• And any and all other duties as assigned.
• Establish and maintain positive, cooperative, and effective working relations with fellow employees.
• Constantly exhibit a guest service attitude, a smile, and an obvious interest in guest comfort and service.
• Communicate with the public in a courteous and tactful manner and assist guests with questions and directions to various areas of the Zoo. Address the guest - do not wait to be asked.
• Remove trash and debris from public areas; i.e. pick up litter whenever you see it.

Your Skills and Expertise
To set you up for success in this role from day one, the San Antonio Zoo recommends the following skills/qualifications:

• Two (2) years of security related work.
• Associate degree in criminal justice or related field. Experience may be substituted for degree.
• Valid Texas driver's license with clean driving record.
• Certification as a first aid and CPR Instructor.
• Certified Level 2 Non-Commission Security.
• Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
• Ability to communicate clearly in English.
• Ability to thoroughly, completely, understandably, and correctly complete incident/accident reports.
• Ability to handle, calmly and effectively, various types of public contact situations.
• Ability to contact San Antonio Park Police, SAPD, SAFD, Bexar County Sheriff, EMS, or other emergency agency to clearly, calmly, distinctly and correctly report an emergency requiring assistance.
• Ability to work weekends, holidays, and after-hour assignments including overnight and swing shift.
• Spanish fluency is highly desirable.
