Electrical & Instrumentation Technician
Liberty Personnel Services, Inc.
Job Details:
Electrical & Instrumentation Technician.
- You keep plants running when everything is on the line. This role puts you right at the center of industrial power, controls, and instrumentation across a high-impact process facility.
- You’ll install, troubleshoot, calibrate, and repair the electrical and control systems that keep production safe, stable, and efficient — from power distribution and motor control to PLC/DCS systems and analytical instruments.
- When a loop drifts, a drive faults, or a control valve misbehaves, you’re the one they call.
- You’ll work with minimal supervision, own your work from diagnosis through commissioning, and be the go-to resource for operators, contractors, and junior techs who need real answers.
- If you’ve been the hands-on problem solver for industrial instrumentation and electrical systems, we want to talk to you.
What You'll Work On
You’ll touch nearly every critical control and power system in the plant, including:
- Plant electrical distribution and power distribution equipment
- AC/DC motors, starters, overloads, transformers, and circuit breakers
- Motor control centers and variable frequency drives
- PLC/DCS control systems, I/O modules, processors, and power supplies
- HMI and operator interface systems and communication networks
- Field instrumentation for pressure, level, flow, temperature, pH, ORP, density, and analytical measurements
- Control valves, actuators, positioners, and I/P devices
- Control panels, junction boxes, conduit, cable tray, and wiring
On the bench and in the field, you’ll use digital multimeters, loop and process calibrators, HART communicators, signal generators, pressure/temperature calibration gear, computer-based diagnostic tools, PLC/DCS software, operator interface tools, and all the power and hand tools it takes to keep a modern plant online.
This is deep-dive troubleshooting and precision calibration in a live industrial environment.
What You'll Be Doing
- Receiving and interpreting work orders, schematics, loop sheets, P&IDs, wiring diagrams, and equipment manuals
- Analyzing electrical and instrumentation drawings, control logic, and process data to identify faults and plan safe repairs
- Applying proper safety practices, including lockout/tagout, arc-flash awareness, and isolation methods to protect people and equipment
- Installing, troubleshooting, calibrating, and maintaining process instruments for pressure, level, flow, temperature, pH, ORP, density, and other analytical variables
- Troubleshooting and repairing PLC, DCS, HMI, remote I/O, communication networks, and related control hardware
- Calibrating, stroking, adjusting, and repairing control valves, pneumatic/electric actuators, positioners, I/P devices, dampers, and other final control elements
- Tracing circuits, testing signals, and verifying loop performance to locate and correct issues in E&I systems
- Repairing or replacing faulty components on motors, drives, power distribution systems, instrumentation, circuit breakers, and electronic controls
- Installing conduit, cable tray, wiring, tubing, control panels, junction boxes, instruments, and related process control equipment
- Performing loop checks, functional testing, commissioning support, and performance checks on operating process equipment
- Maintaining accurate records of calibrations, repairs, adjustments, control changes, spare parts usage, and equipment history
- Making approved PLC/DCS/HMI program revisions in line with site procedures and change management requirements, and supporting high-voltage switching, aerial lift, rigging, scaffolding, and welding activities when trained and authorized
What We're Looking For
- Minimum 3 years of industrial instrumentation, electrical, controls, or closely related maintenance experience (5+ years for senior-level consideration)
- Associate degree in Electrical/Electronics, Instrumentation, Industrial Controls, or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience
- Strong working knowledge of electrical distribution and motor control systems
- Hands-on background with PLC and/or DCS control systems and field instrumentation
- Experience with process analyzers, control valves, actuators, and industrial communication networks
- Ability to read and work from schematics, P&IDs, loop sheets, and technical documentation
- Solid understanding of instrumentation principles, process control strategy, and applicable electrical codes
- Demonstrated commitment to safe work practices in an industrial environment
- Ability to work independently or as part of a maintenance team with minimal direction
- Willingness to provide technical guidance to less experienced technicians and operations personnel
The Experience That Will Really Get Our Attention
You’re the person who can walk up to a dead loop, a tripped drive, or a misbehaving analyzer and calmly sort signal from noise. You’ve lived in both the field and the control room, understand how good control strategy feels in operation, and you’re comfortable making clean, documented changes to PLC/DCS and HMI systems.
Ideally, you bring recognized credentials or OEM training on instrumentation, electrical, or control systems and can speak both technician and engineer when it’s time to get a tough problem solved.
High-signal experience:
- ISA certification
- Electrical license
- Manufacturer-specific PLC training
- Manufacturer-specific DCS training
