Overview

The West Palm Beach VA Medical Center Specialty Care Service seeks an experienced Gastroenterologist to contribute to quality care standards and the growth and development of a VA academic hospital program. Qualifications

Basic Requirements:

• United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy
• Doctor of Medicine (MD) or equivalent in allopathic or osteopathic medicine
• Graduated from a school approved by the Department of Veterans Affairs for the year of graduation
• Current, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a U.S. state/territory/Commonwealth or the District of Columbia
• Residency training: completed in Internal Medicine with Gastroenterology fellowship leading to eligibility for board certification
• Approved residencies include those approved by ACGME or AOA; or one year of post-medical-school training followed by two years of post-training independent practice in the United States; or equivalent foreign training with verified U.S. practice experience
• Exceptions: Physicians in certain residency programs may be appointed as Physician Resident Providers (PRPs) with supervision and non-independent practice
• Proficiency in spoken and written English
• Board certified in Gastroenterology

• Physical requirements: lifting up to 44 lbs, reaching, standing for extended periods, hearing, and mobility as required for the role

Duties

• Open Continuous Announcement with eligibility referral until vacancies are filled
• Eligible applicants will be referred until all vacancies are filled
• Eligible for Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP) with application submitted within four months of appointment
• Compensation and benefits include: competitive salary, annual performance bonus, paid time off, retirement plan, insurance options, licensure support, and CME reimbursement
• Typical duties include patient diagnosis and care planning, pathology follow-up, communication of results to patients, and non-surgical treatment planning
• Collaborative care for Liver and Pancreas transplant patients, including timely submission of transplant referrals
• History/physical examinations, care plans, and obtaining consent for GI endoscopy procedures
• Performance of Endoscopic ultrasound (EUS) procedures and operation of fluoroscopic equipment as needed
• Ensure the Gastroenterology service meets national accreditation standards
• Teaching responsibilities for residents and students, including occasional Noon Conferences and annual Medical Grand Rounds
• Participation in educational programs for gastroenterology staff and medical personnel
• Work Schedule: typically Monday–Friday, 8:00 am – 4:30 pm (schedules determined by supervisor); additional shifts may be required
