Position Special Education Teacher - RISE Program Summary RISE Academy – Reaching Independence through Supportive Education. The Academy provides a highly specialized educational program for students grades Pre‑K to 5 with social/emotional disabilities. Students receive individualized special education services and participate in the full range of specialist classes (art, gym, health, music, dance). The guiding principle is that behavior is communication; students are supported to return to general education classrooms. Responsibilities Design and deliver developmentally appropriate curriculum and programming as warranted by IEP goals and the MA curriculum framework. Develop data collection systems using curriculum‑based and school‑wide progress monitoring tools. Implement behavior and incentive plans and maintain data to support students’ behavioral and social‑emotional needs. Guide classroom support staff in implementing activities that support students’ goals and other areas of need. Provide direct individual and/or group instruction through inclusion and/or resource models. Provide trans‑disciplinary programming through consultation with professional and therapeutic staff. Conduct thorough educational evaluations, developmental assessments, and/or progress monitoring for quarterly reports, annual assessments and re‑evaluations. Prepare MCAS alternate assessments for assigned students when scheduled. Assist with ADLs for students as needed. Implement social‑skills training approaches and programs. Utilize techniques to provide sensory diets for students. Initiate and support the use of assistive technology to enhance curriculum access and communication. Support student transition within the classroom and building using positive behavior supports, visuals, and developmentally appropriate interventions. Maintain supplies, equipment, and departmental space. Organize daily schedule to meet caseload requirements and use indirect time appropriately. Consult with staff in other discipline areas to improve programming. Facilitate ongoing parent communication and encourage family involvement. Develop appropriate individual IEPs consistent with District expectations and applicable laws, in collaboration with required team members. Participate in ongoing professional development in the Special Education Department and the school. Perform other duties as assigned by the Special Education Director or designee. Qualifications Minimum of a bachelor’s degree in special education or a related field. Certification as a Special Education teacher. Knowledge of developmental disabilities. Familiarity with special education assessment tools. Knowledge of curriculum design and development. Knowledge of MA Curriculum Frameworks and MCAS alternative assessments. Knowledge of federal and state regulations governing the provision of Special Education. Terms of Employment Reports to: School Principal. Rate: In accordance with the Unit A contract.
