Position: Registered Nurse – VAD Coordinator
Location: San Francisco, CA
Facility: UCSF Health Medical Center at Parnassus
Contract Duration: 24 Weeks
Shift: Day Shift | 5x8 Hours
Shift Timing: 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM
Start Date: 06/15/2026

Responsibilities:

• Coordinate care for Ventricular Assist Device (VAD) patients in the outpatient setting
• Collaborate with Advanced Heart Failure physicians, APPs, case management, and multidisciplinary teams
• Review laboratory results and medications with physicians and APPs
• Coordinate outpatient referrals, appointments, diagnostic testing, and procedures
• Educate patients and families regarding VAD device operation, lifestyle modifications, and emergency preparedness
• Assess pump function, VAD parameters, hemodynamic status, and cardiovascular condition
• Monitor for complications including infection, bleeding, thrombosis, stroke, and right heart failure
• Perform driveline exit site assessments and dressing changes
• Provide patient and caregiver competency validation for VAD management
• Maintain VAD logs, discharge checklists, and patient parameter documentation
• Support discharge planning, care coordination, and readmission management when needed
• Respond appropriately to VAD alarms, controller exchanges, and emergency procedures

Required Skills & Experience:

• Minimum 2 years of ambulatory VAD management experience OR
  2 years of Cardiac ICU / CTICU experience with VAD management
• Cardiology and ICU experience required
• Experience with VAD outpatient management preferred
• Strong clinical assessment and hemodynamic monitoring skills
• Knowledge of VAD device operation, troubleshooting, and emergency management
• Ability to interpret dysrhythmias and assess abnormal VAD parameters
• Experience with Epic EMR
