ED Program Counselor

Job Title: Teacher/Social Worker - Elementary / School Counselor - Jr High or High School

Months Contracted: 10 Months (Exempt) Job Grade: Teacher/Social Worker - Elementary / School Counselor - Jr High or High School Annual Rate: $56,403 (High School) or $54,335 (Elementary) and up depending on experience and assigned work calendar Full Time Equivalency: 1.0 FTE

Job Purpose Statement: To support the District's academic mission by providing emotional, behavioral, social and prevention services to students and their families enabling students to be resilient, successful learners and gain personal and social competencies

Essential Functions:

• Assess needs of students through observations, social history interviews and consultations with teachers and other staff and provide direct interventions (support groups, brief psycho-educational individual mental health counseling, mediations, behavior management plans, and classroom presentations, teacher support)
• Participate in IEP meetings as a Related Service provider
• Provide consultation to school administrator(s), teachers, staff and parents regarding assessment and intervention plans of students targeted for services
• Participate in prevention education programs on various topics (Behavioral Health Team participation, Positive Behavior Intervention Strategies, bully prevention, peer mediation, substance use awareness, and character education)
• Participate in multidisciplinary team evaluations and meetings including intervention meetings, child study teams, individualized education plans and 504 plans
• Facilitate referrals to community agencies to help meet the needs of students and families
• Participate in crisis intervention services as requested by administration (respond in a timely manner to crisis situations, assume leadership or guidance roles as requested, facilitate referrals to appropriate agencies for needed follow up as appropriate)
• Conduct Risk Assessments, when needed, and respond with appropriate referrals
• Support school administrator(s) with student discipline as appropriate
• Serve on school committees and District committees as directed by administrator(s)
• Maintain professional documentation on students served per District policy
• Maintain adequate safeguards for the confidentiality of information as the circumstances require
• Participate in or lead professional growth opportunities through various means such as staff development opportunities, conferences, seminars and workshops
• Complete other related duties may be assigned

Other Functions: Assists other personnel for the purpose of supporting them in the completion of their work activities.

Mental Requirements:

• Learning Development- Level E Knowledge in a recognized professional field or technological discipline sufficient to command various principles, facts, and practical applications. Learning development is obtained by the completion of a college curriculum resulting in a bachelor's degree in a specialized field; advanced mathematics, very advanced language development, proficient understanding of practical systems.
• Problem Solving - Level 2 Work situations require consideration and interpretation of circumstances or information to choose the most effective responses. Solutions may be somewhat technical, yet are relatively straightforward, obvious and well-defined once problems are understood. Responses come from the realm of prior learning and experiences.

Physical Requirements:

• Physical Skill - Level A Basic level of learned physical skill is required. No special coordination beyond that used for normal mobility and handling of everyday objects and materials is needed to perform the job satisfactorily.
• Physical Effort - Level 1 Minimal physical exertion is required. Most job time is spent sitting with occasional walking. Occasional lifting, guiding, and carrying of lightweight materials or equipment.

Social Requirements:

• Human Relations Skill- Level B Job requires patience in communication and well-developed verbal skills to exchange technical or complex information with individuals or small, informal groups. Skills in establishing harmonious relationships and gaining cooperation are important.
• Scope of Contacts - Level 1 The important job contacts are with peers in the immediate work group and immediate supervisor. Occasional contact with individuals outside the organization may occur.

Work Environment:

• Performance Environment - Level B Work pressure, disturbances of work flow, and/or irregularities in work schedule are expected and occur on an intermittent basis. Changes in the performance environment require occasional upgrading of skills.
• Physical Working Conditions - Level 1 Generally good working conditions. Little or no exposure to extremes in noise, temperature, etc. little or no exposure to safety or health hazards.

Accountability:

• Level of Accountability -Level B Responsible for producing journey-level work output on an independent basis subject to supervisory direction and review.
• Organizational Impact - Level 3 Work results, decisions, and approvals impact the overall design of internal systems, programs, and/or research; the status of others; and/or critical aspects of the final product or service in terms of quantity or quality.

Additional Job Requirements: Minimum Qualifications:

• Meets all certification requirements for the grade level or subject area including proper teaching area endorsements.
• Experience: Job related experience within specialized field is required.
• Education: Master's Degree in Counseling or a Licensed Masters in Social Worker (LCSW) or Master's in Marriage and Family Therapy (LMFT)
• Certifications/Clearances: Valid Arizona Standard Professional Teacher Certificate. Obtain and maintain Crisis Prevention Intervention Certification. Must possess a valid Arizona DPS Level One IVP Fingerprint Clearance Card while employed.
