Leave of Absence Specialist
Location: Houston, TX
Pay Rate: Starting at $36.00/hour
Schedule: Monday-Friday 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM
Dean's Professional Services is seeking a knowledgeable and detail-oriented Leave of Absence Specialist to support a leading healthcare system in Houston, TX. This role is ideal for an HR professional with expertise in leave administration who can serve as a subject matter expert on LOA, FMLA, and LTD programs. You will play a critical role in ensuring compliance, supporting employees and leadership, and partnering with vendors to deliver efficient and accurate leave management services.
Responsibilities
- Serve as the subject matter expert for Leave of Absence (LOA), FMLA, and LTD programs
- Provide guidance and education to employees, managers, and stakeholders on leave policies, procedures, and applicable laws
- Coordinate and manage LOA cases from initiation through return-to-work, ensuring compliance with organizational policies
- Partner with third-party vendors to administer leave claims, provide required documentation, and resolve discrepancies
- Monitor leave timelines and proactively communicate updates, including return-to-work status and extensions
- Develop and support internal training materials, communications, and documentation related to leave management
- Collaborate with HR, Payroll, Benefits, and other departments to ensure seamless leave administration
- Identify process improvements and assist in resolving complex or escalated leave issues
- Maintain accurate records and reporting to support operational and compliance needs
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree (required)
- Minimum 2 years of experience in Human Resources (required)
- At least 2 years of experience in leave administration, FMLA, benefits, or employee relations
- Strong knowledge of LOA, FMLA, and LTD regulations and best practices
- Experience working with third-party vendors and managing claims processes
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint), including data analysis and reporting
- Experience with HRIS systems (e.g., PeopleSoft) preferred
- Excellent communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills
- Ability to manage sensitive information with a high level of confidentiality
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, high-volume environment
