Assistant Manager Safety, Transportation Business Partner- Valley Metro Job Category : Operations Requisition Number : MANAG006682 Posted : August 20, 2026 Full-Time Locations Showing 1 location Tempe, AZ 85281, USA Description Knowledge and Experience: Transportation Safety Institute (TSI) TSSP certification required (or ability to obtain within 2 years Minimum of 3 years of progressive experience in transit operations or transportation safety Strong knowledge of Department of Transportation (DOT), ADOT, and applicable regulatory requirements Experience developing and implementing Safety Management System (SMS) programs, safety plans, policies, procedures, and corrective actions. Demonstrated ability to work effectively within a diverse workforce Skills: Ability to proactively identify risk trends and implement corrective actions and mitigation strategies. Strong collaboration skills to partner with operations, maintenance, and support teams to achieve contractual safety targets. Ability to interpret, apply, and communicate regulatory requirements clearly. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Strong time management and prioritization skills Ability to build effective relationships across all organizational levels. Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Excel, Word, Access Flexibility to support investigations, training, and safety initiatives across varying schedules and operational needs. Key Accountabilities: Safety Management System Support the site implementation of the Safety Management System Plan, comprehensive safety policies, procedures, and tools to enhance compliance with corporate direction in efforts to reduce accidents/injuries in the workplace. Monitor compliance with the KTA’s SMS policies and procedures, conducting ongoing safety auditing. Ensure all relevant statutory and regulatory safety polices are applied and adhered to. Safety Assurance Monitor and evaluate the continued effectiveness of risk control strategies. Identify and assess new hazards introduced in the workplace. Oversee ongoing monitoring and recording of safety performance. Safety Promotion Contribute to the safety culture through displaying exemplary safety-oriented behaviors. Ensure a just culture within the organization where all employees are treated fairly and justly and understand their contribution to the organization’s safety philosophy. Plan, schedule and deliver monthly safety meetings. Proactively leads safety improvement campaigns systematically in the field. Maintenance Employees may be exposed to toxic or caustic chemicals in a ventilated maintenance shop and may work with personal computers, laptops, electronic hand-held devices, complex electrical schematics, diagnostic software and testing devices, and other heavy machinery. Office Staff may work indoors in air-conditioned or well-ventilated facilities, including offices and cubicle spaces equipped with a telephone and computer and may entail typing or looking at a computer screen.
