JOB INFORMATION
The STEM Career Advisor and Science Hub Associate supports the implementation of grant-funded initiatives and the operations of the Science Hub within the STEM department by providing advising, transfer and career development assistance, and student support services to individuals enrolled in transfer-focused STEM higher education programs. This position works directly with students to promote academic success, career readiness, and timely progression toward educational, transfer and employment goals while supporting the mission, values, and equity-centered practices of the institution. This position helps support the day-to-day organizational and operational needs of the Science Hub.
Under general supervision, the STEM Career Advisor and Science Hub Associate assists with needs assessment, student outreach, referrals to internal and external resources, and delivery of academic, transfer and career-related programming aligned with grant objectives. The role collaborates with faculty, staff, and university and community partners to support student engagement, retention, and successful transitions to further education or employment. Activities and outcomes are documented in accordance with grant, institutional, and regulatory requirements. The position supports the science programs through coordinating day-to-day operations in the Science Hub, assisting with maintaining schedules and materials, facilitating student use of science resources and materials, coordinating and proctoring students' assessments and make-up lab assignments. Student Advising and Career Development Support
- Support students in exploring academic areas and career fields of interest and developing academic and career goals
- Assist students in developing academic plans aligned with their goals
- Monitor student academic progress toward academic and career goals
- Provide students with information on topics such as, college /university degree programs and requirements, and admission requirements, financial aid, scholarship and student engagement opportunities and requirements, student assistance and services programs
- Advise/coach students regarding educational issues, such as course and program selection, class scheduling and registration, school adjustment, study habits, and career planning
- Establish and maintain relationships with university transfer partners to support students' successful transfer into university programs and participation in university related opportunities
- Assist with the development of transfer guides for university academic programs
- Advise/coach individuals in career and academic development techniques, such as job/internship/scholarship search and application strategies
- Supports the planning and promotion of transfer-related programs and events, such as transfer planning presentations, university and job-related field trips, job fairs, and career-exploration workshops
- Present information sessions on subjects related to education, admissions, transcripts, career planning, financial aid, internships, or accessibility resources
- Support the application and award process for student scholarships
- Refer participants to appropriate internal and external services, programs, and resources based on assessed needs. Support data tracking of participants enrolled and their progress
- Assisting with organization of resources, equipment and materials in the science Hub
- Assist with maintaining a schedule of events, faculty office hours, and other events in the science hub
- Assist with the coordination of student use of science equipment for individual and group study (calculator, models, microscopes, etc.)
- Assist in planning and implementing student engagement activities and events in the Science Hub
- Monitor student use of the science Hub and assist with maintaining records of student use of the Science Hub
- Monitor student use of equipment in the Science Hub
- Facilitate student study groups for science classes
- Provide resources and student coaching on foundational science concepts such as unit conversions and graphing
- Support science students in connecting with other student support services such as tutoring, advisor, counseling and career services
- Support and participate in recruitment and enrollment activities
- Support and participate in academic and career exploration activities
- Support grant funded initiatives by aligning advising activities with program goals, outcomes, and compliance requirements
- Maintain accurate participant records and documentation in accordance with institutional and grant guidelines
- May prepare reports, summaries, and data related to participant activities, outcomes, and services as required by administration or funding agency
- Coordinate with students and faculty for scheduling of student make-up testing and testing for online classes
- Proctor student assessments
- Keep accurate records of student assessments
- Embraces diversity and actively collaborates effectively with a variety of students, staff and the public from diverse cultural, social, economic and educational backgrounds
- Participates in recruitment and retention of students at an individual and institutional level in promotion of student success
- Embraces, understands and uses appropriate technology tools to accomplish job functions

- This position has a 6-month probationary period
- All positions at Chemeketa are required to be available for work onsite as requested by the college.
- Requires flexible work schedule to meet program needs, which may include evenings and/or weekends
- This position may require the use of your personal vehicle for transportation between campus locations
- If requested, requires the provision of official transcripts upon hire
