Position DescriptionPosition Summary
Summers-Taylor, Inc. is seeking a motivated and organized Safety Technician to support the companys safety program. This position will work closely with the Safety Manager and project teams to help ensure compliance with company safety policies, client requirements, and applicable regulatory standards.
This role is ideal for an individual who has a passion for safety, strong organizational skills, and a desire to grow within the construction industry. While previous safety experience is beneficial, Summers-Taylor is willing to train the right candidate. The position is designed to provide a development path into a Field Safety role supporting operations company-wide.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist with the administration and implementation of the companys safety program on projects throughout East Tennessee and Western North Carolina.
- Conduct jobsite inspections and observations to help identify hazards and promote safe work practices.
- Monitor and track employee training requirements, certifications, and safety documentation.
- Coordinate and schedule required safety training for employees and project personnel.
- Maintain safety records, reports, logs, and compliance documentation.
- Assist with incident and vehicle accident investigations, including documentation and follow-up actions.
- Help ensure all necessary personal protective equipment (PPE), safety materials, and first aid supplies are available and properly maintained.
- Participate in daily, weekly, and monthly safety meetings and assist with safety communications.
- Support project teams in meeting client-specific safety requirements and expectations.
- Assist the Safety Manager with updating safety policies, procedures, and training materials.
- Travel regularly to projects and facilities within Western North Carolina and occasionally to other company locations as needed.
- Complete company-sponsored professional development and safety training programs.
Position Type / Work Environment
- Full-time position.
- Must be willing to work varying schedules based on project needs.
- Frequent travel throughout Western North Carolina and East Tennessee.
- Occasional travel to other Summers-Taylor project locations and facilities.

Position RequirementsRequired
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Valid drivers license with an acceptable driving record.
- Strong organizational and time-management skills.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to build positive working relationships with employees at all levels.
- Computer proficiency, including Microsoft Office applications.
- Self-motivated, dependable, and willing to learn.
- Commitment to promoting a strong safety culture.
- OSHA 30
Preferred
- Associate degree in Occupational Safety and Health, Construction Management, or a related field.
- Previous experience in construction, heavy civil, manufacturing, transportation, or a safety-related role.
- Experience maintaining records, coordinating training, or managing compliance documentation.
- Technical writing experience is a plus.
Professional Development
The successful candidate will be expected to complete and maintain various safety certifications and training programs, which may include:
- OSHA 510
- CPR/First Aid Instructor Certification
- National Flagger Instructor Certification
- Additional company-required safety training
