Enlisted Aircraft Hydraulic Systems

From the landing gear that supports tons of aircraft weight to the flight controls that pull high-G maneuvers, you maintain the heavy-lifting hydraulic and pneumatic systems. You are the mechanical expert who ensures every moving part on the aircraft responds with absolute power and precision when the pilot commands it.

What you'll do

• Isolate faults in high-pressure hydraulic pumps, landing gear actuators, cargo door systems, and flight controls.
• Pressure-test, flush, and fabricate specialized high-pressure tube and hose assemblies.
• Read and interpret complex schematic diagrams to trace hydraulic fluid pathways and mechanical linkages.

Training & Education

• Basic Military Training: 7.5 weeks
• Technical Training: 49 Days
• Tech School Location: Sheppard AFB, TX
• Status Upon Completion: Enlisted Airman with credits earned towards Aviation Maintenance Technology

Key things to consider requirements

• You must be 1742 years of age, a U.S. citizen and obtain a qualifying ASVAB score. High School Students may start their application as early as the end of their junior year. Applicants who are non-graduates or non-alternate credential holders must obtain an AFQT Test score of 65 or higher on the ASVAB.
• 56 Mechanical (M)
• • Knowledge of mechanical principles applying to aircraft hydraulic systems
  • Experience performing or supervising maintenance repairs in aircraft hydraulics
  • Normal color vision
  • Completion of 7.5 weeks of Basic Military Training
  • Must be at least 17, but has not reached age 42 on the date of enlistment
