Lead Maintenance Specialist - Trails (Full Time, Non-Exempt) Application Closing Deadline 4:00 p.m. June 16, 2026 Hiring Range $46,184 - $53,183 annually based on qualifications, education and experience. Position Summary Under the supervision of the Trails Supervisor, this position is responsible for accomplishing the various skilled tasks associated with accepted maintenance practices for all trails, parking lots, public facilities, bridges, and drainage ways. May be required to work weekends, evenings, holidays, to be on snow watch, and to work shifts deviating from normal work days and/or with other work groups. Essential Duties Assist with hiring, training, directing, and inspecting work performed by part‑time staff; coordinate staff training and correct deficiencies. Ensure the safety of District trail users and patrons, and keep liability risk to a minimum through proper maintenance of District amenities. Inspect all trails and rights of way, including trail systems, drainage systems, bridge structures, parking lots, shelters, and restroom facilities. Maintain parking lots and trails: sweeping, painting, parking block installation, asphalt pothole repair, snow and ice removal, restroom and shelter cleaning, trash collection, graffiti removal, and other assigned amenities. Control weeds by applying herbicides to trail systems, rights of way, parking lots, and related areas. Create and maintain documentation such as standard operating procedures to track inventory and maintenance of District amenities. Complete personal timecards, daily activity reports, and record maintenance activities. Operate and maintain tools, communication devices, shared equipment, motorized vehicles, and hand tools in safe, acceptable condition. Assist with estimation, bidding, and purchasing of materials, supplies, and services; maintain professional vendor relationships to ensure proper delivery and quality. Respondtactfully, respectfully, and promptly to inquiries and problems via person, email, phone, or mail; handle confrontational interactions thoughtfully. Attend and participate in staff meetings, trainings, and orientations. Attend work on a regular, reliable, and punctual basis. Preferred: three (3) years of skilled labor and operation related to park and trail maintenance or light civil construction work in the public sector as a Lead, including staff supervision and operation of equipment used in maintenance and repair of trails, parking lots, and related functions. A combination of experience and education may also be considered. Licenses, Certifications, and Other Requirements Certified Pesticide Applicator's License as a Certified Operator in Industrial and Rights‑of‑Way Weed Control (109) category, preferred; or ability to obtain within one (1) year. All required certifications related to essential duties and any related duties. Valid Colorado Driver License, or ability to obtain upon hire and maintain acceptable driving record. Class A Commercial Driver's License required, or ability to obtain within six (6) months. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Willingness and ability to learn and perform maintenance and supervisory tasks efficiently. Ability to operate and receive training on various maintenance standards, procedures, and construction equipment. Knowledge of or capacity to learn current public trail construction, safety, and maintenance standards and equipment. Knowledge of or capacity to learn current parking lot construction, safety, and maintenance standards and equipment. Knowledge of or capacity to learn current bridge and storm‑water conveyance construction, safety, and maintenance standards and equipment. Proficiency with equipment such as backhoes, skid steers, front‑end loaders, dump trucks, trash trucks, rollers, compactors, street sweepers, pressure washers, large water trucks, and excavation equipment. Proficiency in documenting daily maintenance activities, maintaining accurate work logs and reports, implementing traffic and pedestrian detour plans, and conducting job‑site hazard analysis. Physical ability to perform manual labor for extended periods, operate tools and equipment in inclement weather. Clear communication of oral and written instructions in a timely and professional manner. Highly motivated, responsive to direction, with excellent interpersonal and communication skills. Team‑player capable of working independently and within a fast‑paced, high‑volume environment with emphasis on accuracy and timeliness. Ability to provide outstanding customer service and to interact professionally with coworkers, patrons, supervisors, and vendors. Materials and Equipment Used Tractors and implements, power and hand tools, pesticide/herbicide application equipment, chemical sprayers, welding equipment, painting equipment, tandem/single‑axle trucks and trailers, excavation and civil construction equipment. The position regularly drives a District vehicle; use of a personal vehicle may also be required. Working Environment A variety of settings, including indoors and outdoors, day and night, in dark areas, and with variable weather, ecosystems, and landscapes. Outdoor working environments can be wet, humid, and have extreme temperature variations. Conditions include regular exposure to heat, cold, loud noises, dust, wildlife, and chemicals. Physical Requirements Stand, walk, and sit for extended periods. Reach out, above shoulders, and below knees. Lift up to 50 pounds (often with assistance) and occasionally 100 pounds unassisted; lift with assistance up to 200 pounds. Perform repeated motion, twisting, turning, lifting, and bending.
