Building Inspector - Midwest

Responsibilities Inspect buildings for fire and life safety and fire protection systems to determine compliance with local or international building codes. Perform inspections across Commercial, Industrial, Residential, and Hospitality sectors. Evaluate fire suppression, fire detection, and alarm systems. Read and interpret building codes, technical manuals, drawings, instructions, and specifications. Identify and record deviations, reporting all findings using provided tools. Travel to and meet with building owners and managers, explaining codes, inspection procedures, and code compliance programs. Respond to questions, complaints, and requests for information, interpreting policies, ordinances, and codes. Follow up to verify that violations have been corrected and take appropriate action to ensure compliance. Maintain up‑to‑date knowledge of applicable codes, regulations, and standards, reviewing new codes and changes, and staying aware of industry trends, materials, and technologies through professional literature, affiliations, seminars, workshops, and trainings. Adhere to the Underwriters Laboratories Code of Conduct and all physical and digital security practices. Perform other duties as directed. Qualifications University Degree (equivalent to an associate’s degree) in Mechanical, Electrical, or Fire Safety Engineering (preferred). Related discipline with at least five years’ experience as an inspector, building contractor, engineer, or other building‑related trade. ICC Combo Commercial Inspector certification. Certified Electrical Plans Examiner. Knowledge to interpret building codes and identify non‑compliant installations. Strong verbal communication skills with customers. Excellent computer skills. Home Based Position – candidate preferred to be located close to airport due to travel requirements. Benefits Total Rewards: estimated salary range $85,000 to $95,000, plus an annual bonus target of 5% of base salary.
