The primary duty of the assistant director is to assist the transportation director with daily duties in the execution of a thriving transportation system ensuring operational excellence in all facets. Responsibly serve as the transportation director in his/her absence. Implement an enforced disciplinary structure for students who ride the bus. Ensures each driver: Completes four hours of annual in-service training. Has a current physical on file and documentation is in The Wave. Has completed a drug/alcohol test upon hire. Is enrolled in the District random drug/alcohol testing program. Is registered with the Drug and Alcohol Clearinghouse. Assign sub drivers to routes and assign sub buses to routes when needed. Develop cooperative and functional relationships with district staff and the public; maintain consistent and punctual attendance; ensure job responsibilities are met competently and with established deadlines. Communicate trip information with transportation and activity drivers. Maintain the activity fleet to ensure the readiness of its use. Annually update every driver, including substitute drivers and part time drivers in the Bus Driver Certification Online System (The Wave) Create purchase orders for bus/vehicle repairs, parts, department supplies, etc. Create and send out invoices for activity usage. Checks invoices and processes bills for payment for the department. Assists in preparing bus routes and schedules for all schools in the district with the use of the computerized transportation system. Works with school principals and others responsible for planning and/or driving routes, special school trips, and activity trips. Act as liaison with parents for routes, complaints and special requests Maintain positive relationships with the building administration, parents, other staff and students in the buildings. Complete and submit all reports required by the State, Federal Government, and the Board of Education. Receives and processes time sheets for all transportation personnel monthly. Receives telephone calls from parents and district staff; resolves problems and concerns in a positive manner. Communicates with bus drivers and transportation office during regular route runs. Communicate with the Department of Special Education to provide reasonable, safe and prudent transportation services in compliance with Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) Recruit, train, supervise, and evaluate Transportation personnel and make recommendations related to employment and termination. Drive a route as needed. All other duties as assigned by the directors.

Qualifications: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. Successfully complete all pre-employment screenings. Have a good driving record (Motor Vehicle Report -MVR) Education and/or Experience: High School Diploma or GED equivalent. Knowledge/Skills/Abilities: Computer literate; excellent written and oral communication ability. Ability to follow all district policies and procedures. Ability to work independently, displaying initiative and enthusiasm for the tasks being done. Demonstration of strong communication skills, orally and in writing, with faculty, staff, team members, and administrators. Ability to work without supervision, and work as a team player. Ability to document records accurately. Ability to listen effectively. Licenses, Certifications, and Registrations: Has or is willing to obtain an Oklahoma Commercial Driver's License class B, with a passenger (P) endorsement, school bus endorsement (S) and no airbrake restriction. Has or is willing to obtain a School Bus Driver Certificate issued by the Oklahoma State Department of Education. Has or is willing to obtain a School Bus Driver Trainer Certificate issued by the Oklahoma State Department of Education Physical Demands: Must have an annual physical examination.
