Senior Instrumentation & Controls Engineer 1 - Nuclear

Responsibilities Major process controls engineering projects for upgrades and modifications to nuclear power plants, including digital systems such as PLC, DCS, touchscreen displays, network switches, and control systems. Write functional requirements and procurement specifications for instrumentation and control systems in nuclear power plants. Prepare process instrumentation replacement evaluation reports and nuclear modification packages. Design control systems for pumps, valves, heat exchangers, steam turbines, and reactors to improve plant functionality. Attend client meetings and perform site walk‑downs to ensure client satisfaction. Mentor and guide less‑experienced nuclear instrumentation and control design engineers. Work Schedule / Location Hybrid work schedule: in‑office work required 3 days per week. Qualifications BS or MS in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering from an ABET‑approved program with coursework in instrumentation, mechatronics, and process controls design engineering. Minimum 5 years of design engineering experience for process control systems; experience in nuclear power plant control systems preferred. Experience with low‑ and medium‑voltage distribution systems and controls for equipment such as turbines, pumps, feedwater control, and data displays. Knowledgeable in available equipment and pre‑engineered systems applicable to BWR or PWR reactors, including DCS for turbine, control, feedwater, and data display. Experience reviewing design drawings created by others. We do not sponsor employees for work authorization in the U.S. for this position. AI & Automation Lead others in applying data and modern tools such as automation and AI to improve workflows, reduce rework, and deliver cost‑effective designs. Guide teams on automating calculations, summarizing technical documents, and generating design documentation, ensuring outputs are verified. Oversee engineers who program or script (e.g., Python, MATLAB, advanced Excel) for automated engineering tasks; review output quality. Additional learning in Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence, Software Engineering, or related fields is valued to enhance oversight of AI‑enabled engineering workflows.
