Hospitalist Physician

We are seeking Hospital Medicine Physicians for a long-term locum opportunity in Virginia, beginning January 2027. Coverage is expected to last approximately 12 months, with both daytime Hospitalist and Nocturnist opportunities available.

Assignment Details

• Start Date: January 1, 2027
• Minimum commitment: 10 shifts per month

Schedule

• 12-hour shifts
• Day Hospitalist: 7:00 AM 7:00 PM
• Nocturnist: 7:00 PM 7:00 AM
• No call

Practice Setting

• Inpatient Hospital Medicine
• Acute Care Hospitals
• Epic EMR
• 25-bed location: approximately 20 patients/day
• 36-bed location: approximately 22 patients/day

Clinical Responsibilities

• Daily inpatient rounding
• Admissions
• Management of acute hospitalized patients
• No specific procedures listed
• Nocturnist manages onsite patients and provides telemedicine admission coverage to additional facilities
• Some physicians will work alongside Family Medicine residents

Support

• ICU coverage available
• No additional onsite specialty backup listed
• No scribe coverage

Requirements

• MD or DO
• Board Certified or Board Eligible in Internal Medicine or Family Medicine
• Internal Medicine or Family Medicine residency required
• Active Virginia medical license required
• DEA required
• ACLS required
• BLS required
• Alternative boards / ABPS not accepted
• Must be comfortable working with Family Medicine residents when assigned to that location

Credentialing

• Approximately days with a clean file
• Expedited locum privileges may be available for clean candidates
• Epic training, facility modules, and orientation required

Ideal Candidate

A BC/BE Internal Medicine or Family Medicine physician with an active Virginia license who can commit to at least 10 shifts per month. Both Day Hospitalists and Nocturnists are needed, making this a strong long-term opportunity for physicians seeking consistent shifts throughout 2027.
