Substitute Work PoolThe purpose of this posting is to create a pool of applicants to be considered for substitute work in the district. If you would like to be placed in the pool, complete the application. You will be contacted when there is a need to add to our current list of substitutes working in our buildings.Custodian Job DescriptionThe job of Custodian is done for the purpose of creating an attractive, sanitary and safe campus for students, staff and public; providing equipment and furniture arrangements for meetings, classroom activities and events; and minimizing property damage, loss and liability exposure.Directly responsible to: Facilities DirectorEssential FunctionsArranges furnishings and equipment for the purpose of providing adequate preparations for meetings, classroom activities and special events.Assists with other work during the summer for the purpose of supporting the ongoing maintenance program required by the district.Attends in-service training for the purpose of receiving information on new and/or improved procedures.Cleans assigned school facilities for the purpose of maintaining a sanitary, safe and attractive environment.Inspects facilities for the purpose of ensuring that the site is suitable for safe operations, maintained in an attractive and clean condition, and/or identifying repairs due to vandalism, equipment breakage, weather conditions, etc.Knowledge of heating and cooling system and maintenance and repair of minor electrical, plumbing, HVAC, and other minor maintenance equipment repairs.Maintains supplies and equipment for the purpose of ensuring the availability of items required to properly maintain facilities.Performs preventative maintenance and/or repairs/replacements for the purpose of ensuring availability and safety of facility.Prepares facility for daily operations for the purpose of ensuring facilities are operational and safe for occupancy.Responds to immediate safety and/or operational concerns for the purpose of taking appropriate action to resolve immediate safety issues, minimizing property damage, equipment loss and maintaining a functioning educational environment.Working Environment:Lift 100 pounds occasionally and up to 50 pounds frequentlyClimb and descend ladders up to 50 feetBe on your feet for an 8 hour shift.Perform repetitive motions such as mopping, sweeping, dumping garbage cans, cleaning and scrubbing restrooms.Operate power equipment, vacuum cleaners, hand tools, buffers and polishers.Perform minor electrical repairs on ballasts, switches, outlets, etc. and make minor repairs to water lines and plumbing.Shovel snow and ice when required.Other FunctionsAssists other personnel as required for the purpose of supporting them in the completion of their work activities.Other duties as assigned.Job Requirements: Minimum QualificationsSkills, Knowledge and AbilitiesSkills are required to perform multiple, non-technical tasks using existing skills. Specific skills required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: operating equipment used in industrial cleaning; and adhering to safety practices.Knowledge is required to perform basic math, including calculations using fractions, percents, and/or ratios; understand written procedures, write routine documents, and speak clearly; and understand multi-step written and oral instructions. Specific knowledge required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job includes: health standards and hazards, methods of industrial cleaning and safety practices and procedures.Ability is required to schedule activities; collate data; and use job-related equipment. Flexibility is required to work with data utilizing specific, defined processes; and operate equipment using a variety of standardized methods. Ability is also required to work with a diversity of individuals; work with specific, job-related data; and utilize specific, job-related equipment. In working with others, problem solving with data requires following prescribed guidelines; and problem solving with equipment is moderate. Specific abilities required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: communicating with diverse groups, displaying mechanical aptitude, meeting deadlines and schedules, setting priorities, working as part of a team, adapting to changing work priorities and working with frequent interruptions.Responsibilities include: working under direct supervision using standardized procedures; providing information and/or advising others; and operating within a defined budget. There is a continual opportunity to have some impact on the organization's services.Job FunctionsThe usual and customary methods of performing the job's functions require the following physical demands: significant lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling; frequent climbing and balancing; frequent stooping, kneeling, crouching, and/or crawling; and significant fine finger dexterity. Generally the job requires 10% sitting, 40% walking, and 50% standing.
