Solar Technician

Solar Photovoltaic (PV) System InstallerAssemble, install, or maintain solar photovoltaic (PV) systems on roofs or other structures in compliance with site assessment and schematics. May include measuring, cutting, assembling, and bolting structural framing and solar modules.Responsibilities:Promote and comply with all Company and safety policies and proceduresUse appropriate hand tools and power tools to perform a variety of functions to install photovoltaic (PV) systems in accordance with codes and standards using drawings, schematics, and instructionsLay-out, assemble and install solar modules, panels, or support structures, as specifiedApply weather sealing to array, building, or support mechanismsIdentify methods for laying out, orienting, and mounting modules or arrays to ensure efficient installation, electrical configuration, or system maintenanceInstall required labels on solar system components and hardwareDetermine materials, equipment, and installation sequences necessary to maximize installation efficiencyInstall active solar systems, including solar collectors, concentrators, pumps, or fansActivate photovoltaic (PV) systems to verify system functionality and conformity to performance expectationsLift, carry and hold building materials, tools, and supplies; clean tools, equipment, material, and work areas; mix, pour and spread concrete, asphalt, gravel and other materials; Bend, cut, thread, join, wrap and seal sections of rigid / PVC conduit Installing power whips and harnesses; driving stakes; perform cleaning, compacting, grading, painting, sanding or stripping operationsCompile or maintain records of system operation, performance, and maintenanceTake reasonable care of your own and others' health and safety and of those who may be affected by the day-to-day delivery of this role by taking personal responsibility for working toward Wanzek's Zero Injury principlesIf needed, use your stop work authority until the issue is resolvedReport all accidents and near misses to supervisor; participate in investigation process as neededParticipate in all pre-job work planning and safety discussions. Identify safety hazards you or other employees may be subject to and take all necessary corrective action to eliminate and/or mitigate hazardsUnderstand and respond appropriately to all safety hazards and warning devicesUnderstand, support, and follow lockout tag out procedures. Attend site specific training and assure you follow all procedures as out lined in trainingFollow established safety rules and regulations and maintain a safe and clean work environmentCoordinate work with other crafts and co-workers on the jobProvide on-the-job training and/or mentoring to helpers and laborers you are working withProduce quality work, meeting requirements of plans, specifications, and industry standardsWith regard to that portion of the work assigned, develop complete understanding of contract plans and specifications and plan, lay-out, diagram, and install equipmentInspect helper's work for compliance with the contract plans, specifications, and industry standards. Point out deficiencies, explain them, and take corrective action neededObserve functioning of installed equipment or systems to determine hazards and need for adjustments, relocation, or replacement. Notify supervision of any hazards observed and utilize safety stop work authority as neededExamine/inspect field conditions and identify problems, inaccuracies, and cost saving measures that arise or that may be encountered. Take corrective actions as needed reporting any issues to your supervisionIf certified to operate equipment ensure that construction equipment is correctly operated, maintained, in good working order, and Daily Equipment Inspections are completed for equipment being usedPerform all other actions necessary to accomplish the foregoing principal duties and accountabilitiesWork in other crafts at levels appropriate to training and skills as requested by project supervisionPerform all other job related duties as requested by supervisorQualifications:Education and Work Experience Requirements: 2 years of experience working as a Solar Installer or equivalent combination of education and experience in a construction settingWorking knowledge of the Solar Photovoltaic construction craft and the assembly, installation, or maintenance of solar photovoltaic (PV) systems for ground or roof installationRead and understand plans and specifications. Visualize two dimensional drawings in three dimensionsAbility to understand and follow directionsMust be at least 18 years of ageKnowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:Determine materials, equipment, and installation sequences necessary to maximize installation efficiencyEvaluate work and safely utilize appropriate hand tools and power tools for the work being performedUse effective verbal and written communication skills.
