(VRI) is recruiting for a Director of Maintenance/Facilities Operations for a hands-on, site-based leadership role in a specialty acute care hospital located in the Dallas–Fort Worth Metroplex (Central/South region).  This role is best suited for a strong Facilities Manager, Maintenance Supervisor, or Assistant Director ready to step into a Director-level position within a smaller hospital environment where leadership is visible, decisions are made quickly, and operational impact is immediate.  This is a working Director role, focused on daily facilities operations, team leadership, regulatory compliance, Emergency Management, safety oversight, and ensuring a safe, reliable, and efficient hospital environment.  Director will serve as a key operational leader, partnering closely with hospital leadership while guiding a dedicated team of experienced facilities professionals in a fast-paced clinical setting.  The ideal candidate thrives in a hands-on leadership role, enjoys working directly with systems and people, and is motivated by stepping into expanded responsibility within a specialty hospital environment.

Leadership Scope & Responsibilities

As Director of Maintenance, Facilities Operations, you will provide hands-on leadership for all facilities maintenance, engineering, plant operations, infrastructure reliability, regulatory compliance, and environmental safety activities.

Key Responsibilities:

• Direct daily plant operations, facilities maintenance, engineering, grounds, and infrastructure services 
• Ensure reliable operation of critical building systems including HVAC, electrical distribution, emergency power, medical gas, fire protection, and life safety systems 
• Serve as the Designated Site Safety Officer, overseeing facility safety programs, Emergency Management,  compliance, and incident prevention 
• Lead preventive maintenance, corrective maintenance, and emergency response programs 
• Manage departmental budgets, staffing plans, and operational priorities 
• Oversee vendor performance, contracted services, and facility support operations 
• Provide leadership, coaching, and development for a dedicated team of experienced facilities professionals while fostering      accountability, teamwork, and service excellence 
• Partner closely with hospital leadership to support safe, efficient, and compliant operations 
• Maintain readiness for Joint Commission, CMS, NFPA, OSHA, and other regulatory standards 
• Drive continuous improvement in reliability, safety, and customer service performance 
• Promote a culture of professionalism, responsiveness, and operational accountability 

Commuting & Location Expectation

This role is best suited for candidates residing within a reasonable commuting distance of the Central/South Dallas–Fort Worth corridor, where daily travel to a hospital environment is practical and sustainable.

  Core Experience (Minimum Expectations) Director must demonstrate the following foundational experience:

• Healthcare facilities, plant operations, or hospital engineering environment experience 
• Working knowledge of hospital building systems (HVAC, electrical, plumbing, life safety, etc.) 
• Prior supervisory or leadership experience (team lead, supervisor, manager, or equivalent responsibility) 
• Familiarity with healthcare regulatory environments including the Joint Commission, OSHA, and NFPA standards 
• Strong communication skills with the ability to work across operational and clinical teams 
• Ability to manage priorities in a fast-paced, service-oriented environment   
• Ability to effectively communicate: read & write, in English
• Must possess a valid driver’s license with a clean driving record
• Pass a drug screen & criminal background check; willingness to participate in hospital’s required health screenings/immunizations
• Must be minimum of 18 years of age

Preferred Background The ideal candidate may also have:

• Current Facilities Manager, Maintenance Supervisor, or Assistant Director experience in a hospital setting 
• Experience in a specialty, community, or mid-sized acute care hospital environment 
• CHFM certification or other technical/industry credentials (not required) 
• Experience stepping into expanded leadership responsibility within facilities operations 
• Strong hands-on background in building systems maintenance or trades leadership

Leadership Expectations (Communication & Operational Judgment) This role requires a leader who demonstrates clear, timely, and professional communication across all levels of the organization, including clinical leadership, executive stakeholders, and facilities team members.The successful candidate will:

• Communicate effectively and concisely, ensuring information is accurate, structured, and actionable 
• Exercise strong judgment and discretion in determining appropriate escalation versus local resolution 
• Demonstrate sound decision-making in operational situations impacting patient care environments and facility reliability 
• Maintain organized documentation and follow-through on operational issues and reporting 
• Be proficient in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint)
