Special Education Teacher – CASTLE Program

Full-Time | Exempt | Pay Grade T1
$60k–$79k (includes SPED stipends)

Killeen ISD is seeking a Special Education Teacher to support students in its CASTLE program, a specialized learning setting for students with autism. CASTLE classrooms serve students with a range of communication, academic, and social support needs. The teacher will provide individualized instruction, build a structured and supportive classroom environment, and work closely with families, aides, and other educators to help students progress toward their goals.

What You’ll Do

• Plan and deliver individualized instruction using effective, research-based teaching strategies
• Develop and implement Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) tailored to student needs
• Serve as a case manager for assigned students, prepare goals and objectives, and participate in ARD meetings
• Use appropriate communication, instructional, and behavioral supports to help students participate and learn
• Monitor student progress through ongoing assessments and required reporting
• Collaborate with general education teachers and other specialists on instruction, accommodations, and student support
• Communicate regularly with families about student progress and needs
• Maintain accurate student records and protect student confidentiality
• Create consistent classroom routines and a supportive learning environment
• Use instructional technology and adaptive equipment as appropriate
• Support students with physical needs when required
• Guide and supervise classroom aides and volunteers
• Participate in professional learning and staff meetings
• Comply with district, state, and federal policies and standards

What You Bring

Education & Certification

• Bachelor’s degree
• Valid Texas Teaching Certificate
• Special Education endorsement/certification

Skills & Strengths

• 1+ years of classroom teaching experience
• Strong instructional planning and classroom management skills
• Knowledge of IEP development and ARD processes
• Ability to adapt instruction to individual communication and learning needs
• Ability to collaborate with families, aides, and multidisciplinary teams
• Strong communication skills and a commitment to ethical, professional practice

Work Environment & Physical Requirements

• Work occurs in classroom and school settings
• Frequent standing, walking, bending, kneeling, and lifting
• Regular moderate lifting (up to 44 lbs); occasional heavier lifting
• May support students with mobility and medical needs
• District-wide travel may be required
• Occasional evening or weekend school events
