Embracing Service, Inspiring Innovation, Promoting Teamwork, Pursuing Excellence, and Advancing Equity Under limited supervision of the South Carolina Violent Death Report System (SCVDRS) and Overdose Data to Action State Unintentional Drug Overdose Reporting System (SUDORS) Assistant Unit Manager in the Bureau of Chronic Disease and Injury Prevention, Epidemiology, Analytics, & Datata Visualization Section, the Program Coordinator I (SCVDRS Abstractor) abstracts violent death data from death records and participates in quality assurance and improvement activities to support the SCVDRS surveillance system. This position works with personally identifiable information.
State Minimum Requirements: A high school diploma and relevant program experience.
Any equivalent combination of education and/or experience that demonstrates the required knowledge, skills, and abilities may be considered in meeting the minimum qualifications, subject to approval by the DPH Chief Human Resources Officer or their designee.

Embracing Service, Inspiring Innovation, Promoting Teamwork, Pursuing Excellence, and Advancing Equity Under limited supervision of the South Carolina Violent Death Report System (SCVDRS) and Overdose Data to Action State Unintentional Drug Overdose Reporting System (SUDORS) Assistant Unit Manager in the Bureau of Chronic Disease and Injury Prevention, Epidemiology, Analytics, & Datata Visualization Section, the Program Coordinator I (SCVDRS Abstractor) abstracts violent death data from death records and participates in quality assurance and improvement activities to support the SCVDRS surveillance system. This position works with personally identifiable information.
- Abstracts and enters de-identified violent death and drug overdose data from death certificates, coroner, law enforcement, and toxicology reports, and supplemental records into the CDC National Violent Death Reporting System (NVDRS) web-based data system. Serves as the program abstraction lead for assigned counties.
- Assists with record retrieval and data quality activities for assigned DPH counties. Searches county and municipal law enforcement and coroner websites and social media accounts (Facebook, X) for official press releases.
- Assists with quality assurance and quality improvement activities to include record re-abstraction, data verification, and maintenance. May assist with compilation, publication, and presentation of data for internal and external stakeholders.
- Maintains up-to-date knowledge of CDC NVDRS and SUDORS by participating in trainings, conference calls, meetings, webinars, and literature reviews. Maintains information in accordance with DPH policy and all other applicable guidelines and laws.
- Travels in-state to conduct abstraction at data providers offices. Travels in-state or out-of-state for conference participation or training as directed.
- Performs all other duties as assigned.
