Assistant Softball Coach

The Assistant Softball Coach is responsible for assisting with coaching, coordination, fund‑raising, and administration of activities associated with the College's softball program. Salary : $25.00 per hour, not to exceed 19 hours per week or $24,480 in a nine (9) month period. Part‑time positions are posted based on the possible availability of a future assignment which may be sporadic and may not occur. Available positions are contingent upon enrollment and instructional needs of the College. This position will be based initially at the Wallace Campus in Dothan. Essential Functions – Softball Operations Maintain playing surfaces of the softball field. Assist with monitoring student‑athlete's academic progress. Coordinate logistics of team travel. Assist in fundraising for the softball team and major fundraisers in the Athletic Department. Ensure the College's baseball program stays in full compliance with related rules and regulations of NJCAA, ACCC, and Alabama Community College System. Assist with tryouts to bring prospective athletes to campus and evaluate prospective athletes for inclusion on the softball team. Publicize information on upcoming athletic events, camps, award recipients, and achievements of individual student athletes and teams. Essential Functions – Coaching Counsel student athletes in sport participation, personal development, and academics. Work with the head Softball Coach to encourage development of psychological, social, and mental skills necessary for success in the classroom, on the field, and in future endeavors. Assist with individualized game‑day strategies and practice needs for athletes. Help develop line‑ups, game strategies, and individual workout and practice plans. Essential Functions – Recruitment Recruit students for the softball team by attending camps, high school games, regional and state tournaments, tryouts, and summer leagues, and maintaining communication with high school coaches. Assist with direct contact with prospective athletes and their parents through home visits and campus visitations, explaining the goals for student athletes. Travel as appropriate to observe potential athletes. Coordinate community service activities and projects for student athletes and teams. Perform other job‑related duties as assigned. Essential Functions – College Expectations Report to work on time and at an appropriate workstation during scheduled workdays and hours. Understand that failure to report for work or reporting late without prior approval will result in disciplinary action. Perform a productive full day's work. Prioritize service to students and the general public. Demonstrate a considerate, friendly, respectful, and constructive attitude toward colleagues and students. Adhere to all College and System policies and procedures. Perform other job‑related duties as assigned. Qualifications High School diploma or GED equivalent is required. One year of formal coaching experience at high school or college level is required. Valid driver license is required. Ability to travel is required. Ability to work nonstandard hours is required. A proven record of integrity, high principles, and demonstrated skill in developing and motivating student‑athletes academically and athletically. Ability to obtain and maintain a CDL.
