Part-Time Nurse Practitioner (NP)NaphCare is seeking a part-time Nurse Practitioner (NP) to work weekends on Saturdays and Sundays in Des Moines, IA. Join our team of healthcare professionals providing comprehensive medical care for individuals currently incarcerated at Polk County Jail.As a Correctional Nurse Practitioner, you will collaborate with correctional officers and other healthcare staff to deliver quality care to inmates. Working in a secure environment where safety is a priority, you will perform assessments, diagnose and treat a variety of medical conditions and chronic illnesses, prescribe medications, and respond to emergencies. This position offers a rewarding opportunity to positively impact a diverse patient population with complex healthcare needs.Duties and ResponsibilitiesThe Nurse Practitioner plays a critical role in our continued mission to provide quality care that protects the rights, dignity, and health of our unique patient population. Duties and responsibilities may include and are not limited to:Conducting physical examinations, developing treatment plans and monitoring patientsManaging acute and chronic conditions such as asthma, hypertension, and diabetes.Administering medications and providing instructions to patientsMonitoring and documenting patient health including vital signs, medical histories.Providing direct patient care, triaging, assessing patient needs, developing care plans, and coordinating services.Responding to medical emergencies, providing first aid, and ensuring timely transport to appropriate healthcare facilities.Educating patients on preventative care, healthy lifestyle choices, and substance abuse prevention.Understanding and adhering to correctional facility security protocols, while working closely with correctional officers and other healthcare professionals, to ensure the safety and well-being of patients.Maintaining accurate medical records, documenting treatment plans, and reporting any relevant information.Conducting rounds, evaluating patients returning from off-site treatmentAdmitting and discharging patients from the facilityExperience / Requirements / QualificationsAdvanced nursing education (Master's or Doctorate)Current licensure as a Nurse PractitionerMust hold a current unrestricted license as a Nurse Practitioner in IACurrent DEA registrationAn appropriate collaborative agreement with the on-site PhysicianMust possess an active BLS CPR Certification (American Heart Association preferred)Be certified in a Board recognized by the American Board of Medical SpecialtiesMust pass the facility's criminal background check and drug screeningKnowledge of nursing practice principles and techniques, occupational health and safety standards, infectious disease management, applicable health care laws, regulations, and procedures for direct health care services.Ability to maintain confidentiality of all proprietary and/or confidential informationExcellent communication, organizational, and problem-solving skillsAble to work independently and in a teamExperience working in a correctional facility or acute care center is a plusIntegrity, professionalism and ability to adhere to a Code of Conduct and comply with all facility(s) correctional healthcare policies, procedures, and legal requirementsMust have the ability to stand for long periods, lift and move patients (up to 50 pounds), bend, squat, reach, push, pull, walk significant distances, and perform physically demanding tasks like CPR, all while maintaining good balance and endurance throughout a shift.NaphCare is one of the largest providers of healthcare services to correctional facilities throughout the US, and we are growing.
