Assistant Dean of Budget and Entrepreneurial Opportunities

Job Description Required Qualification (as evidenced by an attached resume): Master's degree (foreign equivalent or higher) in business administration, finance, or a related field. Five (5) years of full-time progressive leadership experience in financial management, budget oversight, or operations. Experience in accounting practices, management, finance and budgeting. Experience developing and evaluating business and financial plans or revenue-generating initiatives. Preferred Qualifications: Certificate or training in work organization methodology or process improvement. Familiarity with university financial systems, academic program development, and accreditation requirements. Leadership experience in financial management, budget oversight, or operations within higher education or healthcare. Experience working in a School/College of Health Professions or other health-related academic environment. Experience working in a unionized environment. Experience cultivating external partnerships or management of clinical or academic enterprises. Brief Description of Duties: The Assistant Dean for Budget and Entrepreneurial Opportunities reports to the Associate Dean of the School of Health Professions and serves as a key member of the School's leadership team, providing strategic direction, oversight, and management of the School's financial operations, resource planning, and revenue-generating initiatives. This role partners closely with the Dean, Associate Dean, department chairs, administrative departments, and University leadership to ensure fiscal sustainability, operational excellence, and the development of innovative opportunities that advance the School's mission, growth, and long-term viability. The ideal candidate should have strong analytical and strategic planning skills, with the ability to interpret complex financial data. The ideal candidate should also have excellent communication, leadership, and interpersonal skills. Duties: Budget & Financial Management Lead the development, implementation, and oversight of the School's annual budget, including multi-year forecasting and strategic financial planning to provide the resources required to support the mission of the School Manage the financial operations including budget, accounting, procurement, the development and reassessment of rates for programs, student fees and other initiatives, financial reporting and variance analysis, financial risk assessment and capital planning Utilize and monitor multiple sources of funding that SHP receives, including state funds, foundation accounts, grants, scholarships and all other contracts and agreements Monitor financial performance across academic programs, research activities and/or designated units as needed Develop financial models and reports used to support decision-making regarding department and program development, financial health, enrollment, staffing, program expansion and resource allocation Support department chairs and program directors in understanding and managing their budgets, providing regular analysis and actionable insights Oversee operational efficiency initiatives and ensure compliance with university financial policies and reporting standards, including assistance with all accreditation financial requirements for the programs in the School Provide financial oversight for the pre-award, interim and post-award sponsored research sources, internal grants and awards, external contracts, foundation support, and all other courses of financial support that may need to be managed in the School Partners with the SHP Director of Clinical Contracts and Business in the preparation of letters of offer and salary determinations and increases for faculty and staff Entrepreneurial & Revenue-Generating Initiatives Identify, evaluate, and develop new entrepreneurial opportunities, including continuing education, stackable credentials, certificate programs, micro-credentials, partnerships, and community-based initiatives Lead business planning for emerging programs, including market analysis, cost modeling, and revenue projections Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders including healthcare organizations, industry partners and community institutions) to cultivate strategic partnerships and joint ventures Support the expansion of consulting services or other mission-aligned enterprises Operational Leadership, Communication & Strategic Planning Serve as a member of the School's senior leadership team as the Chief Financial Officer, providing guidance on strategic priorities, academic innovation, and long-range planning Analyze data including enrollment, workforce trends, market demand, program performance) to inform strategic decisions. Oversee or support administrative functions related to finance, operations, and special projects as assigned by the Dean or Associate Dean Contribute to accreditation and compliance activities by ensuring financial and operational preparedness Supervise the Staff Assistant for Budget Work closely with central university offices, including the VP of Health Administration and Finance, University Accounting, Human Resources, Sponsored Programs and the Stony Brook Foundation Communicate financial information clearly and transparently to faculty, staff, and leadership Foster a culture of innovation, fiscal responsibility, and continuous improvement within the School Other duties or projects as assigned as appropriate to rank and departmental mission. Special Notes: This is a full-time appointment. FLSA Exempt position, not eligible for the overtime provisions of the FLSA. Minimum salary threshold must be met to maintain FLSA exemption. In addition to the employee's base salary, this position is eligible for $4000 UUP annual location pay, paid biweekly. Essential Position: This has been designated as an essential position based on the duties of the job and the functions performed. Positions that are designated as such may be required to report to work/remain at work even if classes are canceled, and the campus is working on limited operations in an emergency.
