Salary range: $19.81 – $25.75 per hour. Placement within the salary range depends on relevant work experience and internal equity. Union positions follow collective bargaining agreement guidelines. Must be able to work Monday through Friday 9 am–5:30 pm. The Phlebotomist provides expert phlebotomy services, demonstrates excellent customer service, active communication, and works effectively as part of a unified team that prioritizes patients. Responsibilities Perform phlebotomy and other lab specimen collections per age‑related standards and in accordance with departmental policies, protocols, and procedures. Demonstrate the AIDET model and optimize patient safety to reduce the likelihood of medical/health care errors. Receive and review physician orders; ensure all necessary information is included for appropriate lab services. Enter accurate orders for lab tests in accordance with department policies, protocols, and procedures. Communicate the patient communication model and provide appropriate post‑phlebotomy patient care. Process specimens in a timely manner to ensure stability and integrity of samples, including labeling, centrifuging, aliquoting, freezing, and packaging specimens for transport according to established protocols and policies. Review and record refrigerator temperature(s) and QC/QA records. Record areas of concern through the Corrective Action Log and report to maintenance for repair. Findings are reported to supervisor or manager. Understand operation and maintenance of equipment pertinent to the job. Follow up with all outstanding orders on manifest log, and communicate all timed, completed or uncompleted draws/charges/results as appropriate. Communicate and notify Laboratory and/or Physician of problems with specimen procurement for optimal care. Maintain a safe work environment, hold self accountable for safe work practices, including adherence to biohazard waste procedures and ensuring proper storage and timely pickup of biohazardous waste. Perform lab‑related clerical duties, including but not limited to order entry, verification of test result receipt, patient information retrieval, and utilization of email, medical record systems, handheld and desktop devices, ordering and maintaining supply inventory, filing and sanitizing equipment as necessary. Use department’s resources efficiently; participate in efforts to reduce costs and streamline work processes. Adhere to continuing education expectations; complete and sign off on competency assessments. Demonstrate the value of teamwork consistently; interact with and assist others in a professional manner. Apply critical thinking, sound decision‑making, and judgment to investigate and resolve challenging situations. Comply with all organizational policies regarding ethical business practices. Perform other duties as assigned. Qualifications Required: High school diploma or equivalent. Phlebotomy certification through a nationally recognized organization or training from a phlebotomy school or medical institution, or one or more years of phlebotomy experience in a healthcare setting, or CMA certification. Preferred: Experience performing phlebotomy on a broad range of patient types. Experience with processing lab specimens, transferring specimens, and handling a centrifuge. Familiarity with medical EMR systems. Knowledge of medical terminology.
