FIELD SERVICE TECHNICIAN

We are currently offering up to a $5,000 sign‑on bonus for Heavy Equipment Field Service Technician new hires. $2,500 is payable after 90 days of employment, and the remaining $2,500 is payable after 180 days of employment. Minimum of three years' relevant heavy equipment field experience is required to be eligible for the $5,000 sign‑on bonus. Candidates with less than 3 years of heavy equipment field experience are eligible for a $2,000 sign‑on bonus. Bonuses are made in two equal installments at 90 days and 180 days of employment. Carter Machinery Company, the authorized Caterpillar dealer serving Virginia, West Virginia, Maryland, Delaware and Washington D.C., is hiring a Field Service Technician in South Hill, Virginia. The Field Service Technician will provide expert level diagnosis, troubleshooting, and repair of all engine and component parts, regardless of model or maker, at customer jobsites. What You Will Do Apply expert level troubleshooting techniques and determine proper repair procedures on all assigned work orders. Service, diagnose, and repair or rebuild all engine and component parts regardless of model or maker, including electrical, computer, and monitor systems at the customer’s jobsite. Disassemble, inspect, and determine parts needed, then reassemble to factory specifications. Interact with customers and answer repair‑related questions as required; refer non‑repair related questions to a supervisor. Perform heavy electrical and computer repairs. Interpret and utilize information from operating, maintenance, and service manuals or bulletins. Inspect components removed from machines to determine their reusability. Prepare parts requisitions, parts returns, accurate and complete service reports, and other necessary reports and forms. Clearly and concisely document all work and repairs completed in a timely manner. Maintain work area, tools, and equipment to promote a clean and safe environment. Perform various other duties as assigned. What We're Looking For Minimum of four years of experience repairing heavy construction equipment preferred. Experience troubleshooting and diagnosing expert level mechanical repairs. High school diploma or GED required. Thorough knowledge of engines, transmissions, electrical, and related components to troubleshoot and analyze unique and high‑level problems quickly and improvise using logic and critical thinking skills to make necessary repairs. Excellent mechanical aptitude. Ability to repair Caterpillar and competitive components and machines. Excellent driving record and the ability to obtain a CDL. Ability to become DOT certified with a DOT medical card. Willingness to work any shift and overtime as needed to meet business and customer demands. Strong communication with excellent oral and written skills. Self‑direction and well organized. Proficient use of technical software, databases, and manuals.
