Electrician

The purpose of this class is to install, test, troubleshoot and repair electrical wiring, fixtures, control devices and related equipment in a water and sewer utility environment; and to routinely perform preventative maintenance on all equipment and components in order to ensure the continued safe, efficient and effective operations of all equipment and fixtures utilized by the organization.

Essential job functions include installing, testing, maintaining, troubleshooting and repairing electrical wiring, fixtures, control devices and equipment for both new and rework projects as well as for ongoing maintenance. This also includes reading and interpreting drawings, blueprints, electrical code specifications and schematics to effectively troubleshoot, maintain and repair equipment. Diagnosing, locating the cause of, and repairing malfunctioning systems and components using test equipment is also part of the role. Replacing level controls, float switches, pumps and pump motors, troubleshooting pump station electrical controls, performing preventative maintenance through inspection of electrical systems, equipment and components, maintaining accurate and up-to-date maintenance records, testing electrical systems and continuity of circuits in electrical wiring, equipment and fixtures, and performing duties in accordance with applicable policies, procedures, laws, regulations, contracts, permits, and standards of quality and safety are all critical responsibilities. The role also involves working on other electrical projects as required, performing unsupervised emergency repairs and services including general electrical and plant failures, and being subject to 24-hour on-call status as assigned. Additionally, the position requires installing, maintaining and operating Supervisor Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) operating system, repairing control panels, starters, float switches, pumps, aerators, chlorine equipment, etc., and ensuring the maintenance of consistent system performance levels at set standards. The position is a full-time role with typical work hours and days from Monday through Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., with some flexibility in hours but availability during the "core" work hours of 9:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. Employees must work 40 hours each week to maintain full-time status and must be available to work holidays and weekends during emergencies. This is a safety sensitive position and employees holding this position have the responsibility for their own safety and the safety of others. The position is also subject to random drug testing.

Education and experience required include a high school diploma or GED supplemented by education in electrical maintenance and repair, industrial technology or a closely related field. At least six (6) years of related work experience is required. Special certifications and licenses include a valid state driver's license and electrician certification preferred.
