Faculty Job Description SUMMARY: The Research and Instruction Librarian is responsible for providing general and advanced discipline-specific research assistance and instruction services to undergraduate and graduate students, faculty, and staff of a designated college, including collection development and engagement, with a focus on coordinating and assessing the multi-literacy program. - Coordinates and implements an engaging information literacy program and develops student learning outcomes. Assesses the effectiveness of the literacy program's strategies and initiatives in support of student success.
- Develops and implements policies, procedures, programs, and partnerships to build and improve research skills and integrates information literacy components within courses, curriculum, and the learning management system (LMS).
- Creates standards for teaching and learning materials and oversees the creation and maintenance of digital learning objects.
- Serves as primary contact for early college high school students.
- Provides library instruction, develops and creates print and online instructional materials, plans and conducts classes and workshops, and integrates multi-literacies into the teaching, learning, and research activities of the university.
- Provides research assistance (in-person, phone, chat, email, video conferencing, etc.) and serves as a subject librarian to a designated college/academic department.
- Collaborates with colleagues and faculty to facilitate collection development to align scholarly resources with the teaching and research needs of the university and college.
- Plans and participates in engagement activities and events and fosters collaborations with students, faculty, and staff in support of student success and retention.
- Participates in the assessment of research and user engagement activities.
- Serves on library and university committees.
- Participates in continuing education and professional development opportunities.
- Other duties as assigned.
- Education: Master's degree in Library and Information Science from an ALA-accredited program.
- Experience / Knowledge / Skills: Excellent oral and written communication skills and interpersonal skills. Attention to detail and project management skills. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to: Excel individually and as a team member. Travel as needed. Work beyond normal office hours (evenings, nights, and weekends) as needed. Multitask and work cooperatively with others. Adapt to a changing library environment. •
- Licensing/Professional Certifications: Valid driver's license.
- Physical Requirements: Ability to move medium-weight boxes, books, heavy book truck, or similar items.
- Other Requirements: Ability to handle material that can contain dust or microscopic mold spores.
- One or more years of post-MLS experience in research services (research, reference, instruction) in an academic library.
- Experience developing online learning materials with e-learning technologies/software and other platforms (SpringShare, Adobe Creative Cloud, Camtasia, Articulate, etc.).
- Experience with instructional and universal design and active learning techniques.
- Experience with learning management systems (D2L, Blackboard, Canvas, etc.), emerging related technologies (Artificial Intelligence, augmented reality, gamification, etc.), and ADA guidelines.
- Experience with instructional planning and design in an academic setting (ACRL Framework for Information Literacy for Higher Education).
- Experience in assessing the effectiveness of library services and initiatives.
