We are looking for a Staff Accountant to join a nonprofit organization in New York, New York on a Contract basis for the next several months. This position will help maintain accurate financial records and provide hands-on accounting support during month-end, year-end, and audit activities. The ideal candidate brings strong Excel and Intacct skills, along with prior experience in a nonprofit environment and the ability to manage multiple accounting priorities effectively.

Responsibilities:
• Prepare and record journal entries to support daily accounting operations and period-end activities.
• Reconcile bank accounts, cash balances, and general ledger accounts to ensure financial accuracy.
• Assist with month-end and year-end close processes by organizing supporting documentation and resolving variances.
• Partner with the team to respond to audit inquiries and compile materials requested during audit and grant review activities.
• Maintain accurate financial records in Intacct and support ongoing account analysis as needed.
• Perform ad hoc financial reviews and reporting support to help address accounting questions and operational needs.• At least 3 years of accounting experience, including hands-on general ledger and journal entry work.
• Strong proficiency in Microsoft Excel for reconciliations, analysis, and financial data review.
• Experience using Intacct in an accounting environment that requires close attention to detail.
• Background in bank and cash reconciliations with close attention to detail.
• Familiarity with month-end and year-end close procedures.
• Prior accounting experience within a nonprofit organization is strongly preferred.
• Ability to support audit processes and respond to financial or grant-related documentation requests.
