Labor and Delivery Nurse

Job Title: Labor and Delivery Nurse Profession: RN Specialty: Labor and Delivery Nursing Duration: 13 weeks Shift: Variable shift, 3 mandatory calls in 13 weeks Hours per Shift: 36 Experience: Minimum 2 years License: Montana Licensure (Registered Nurse) Certifications: American Heart Association BLS Neonatal Resuscitation Program Provider (NRP) recertification required every 2 years Electronic Fetal Monitoring Series Certificate of Completion (or equivalent AWHONN approved course) American Heart Association ACLS (Not required for Lactation RN) Additional certification in lactation consulting/counseling (if applicable) Must-Have: Must be able to circulate. Must be willing to float to Mother Baby and take couplets. Must be willing to float to other units as safety companion.

Description: The Registered Nurse works in a collaborative and cooperative relationship with other members of the health care team. This role involves planning and implementing patient and family education. It is the responsibility of the nurse to assess the needs and initiate appropriate intervention for patients. The job requires collecting comprehensive data pertinent to the patient's health or the situation. Assessment data must be analyzed to determine diagnoses or issues. Nurses are expected to identify expected outcomes for a plan individualized to the patient or the situation. A plan that prescribes strategies and alternatives to attain expected outcomes must be developed. The identified plan of care must be implemented. Strategies to promote health and a safe environment should be employed. Nurses must systematically enhance the quality and effectiveness of nursing practice. Attaining knowledge and competency that reflects current nursing practice is essential. Evaluation of one's own nursing practice in relation to professional standards and guidelines is required. Interaction with and contribution to the professional development of peers and colleagues is expected. Collaboration with patients, families, and others in the conduct of nursing practice is essential. Ethical provisions must be integrated into all areas of practice. Research findings should be incorporated into practice. Providing leadership in the professional practice setting and the profession is necessary. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Demonstrates sound judgement, patience, and maintains a professional demeanor. Ability to work in a busy and stressful environment is required. Creativity, problem analysis, and decision-making skills are important. Ability to work varied shifts is necessary. Physical Requirements: Lifting (Repeatedly 50 pounds): Exerting force occasionally and/or using a negligible amount of force to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects or people. Sitting (Occasionally): Maintaining a sitting posture for extended periods may require adjusting body position to prevent discomfort or strain. Standing (Repeatedly): Maintaining a standing posture for extended periods may include adjusting body position to prevent discomfort or strain. Walking (Repeatedly): Requires good balance and coordination while moving around within the work area. Climbing (Rarely): Ascending or descending ladders, stairs, scaffolding, ramps, poles, etc., using feet and legs; may also use hands and arms. Twisting/Bending/Stooping/Kneeling (Repeatedly): Requires flexibility and a wide range of motion in the spine and joints. Reaching Above Shoulder Level (Repeatedly): Involves lifting, carrying, pushing, or pulling objects as necessary above the shoulder, requiring strength and stability. Push/Pull (Repeatedly): Using the upper extremities to press or exert force against something with steady force. Fine-Finger Movements (Continuously): Involves picking, pinching, typing, or primarily working with fingers. Vision (Continuously): Close visual acuity to prepare and analyze data and figures as well as to read various materials. Cognitive Skills (Continuously): Learning new tasks, remembering processes, completing tasks independently, and making timely decisions. Exposures (Continuously): Exposure to bloodborne pathogens, radiation, various chemicals, and potential infectious diseases.
