Dental Assistant DutiesThe Dental Assistant duties include, but not limited to:Shows courtesy, respect, and a positive attitude for patients, co-workers and the publicProvides assistance to customers with questions or concerns and service recoverySets up operatory and/or surgery suite for planned dental procedure and cleans dental unit for timely turnoverPasses instruments safely, accurately, and efficientlyKeeps operative field clear of debris and retracts oral tissues effectively and comfortablyPrepares dental medicaments and impression materials per manufacturer's instructionsAccomplishes all intra-operative procedures within standard infection control protocolsAssists in routine general dental procedures using concepts of four-handed dentistryAssists in specialized dental procedures, such as oral surgery, endodontics, periodontics, prosthodontics, implant placement and restorationMaintains both routine and specialty dental equipment per manufacturer instructions and dental service standardsExposes both standard and specialty dental imaging (i.e. TMJ, ceph, cone beam) in traditional and/or digital formatsModifies settings to achieve the images as requested by the providerDemonstrates proper infection control procedures in setting up and cleaning operatoriesDisinfects oral appliances to prevent cross contaminationProperly prepares instruments for transfer to SPD for sterilization Follows all Standard Operating Procedures for Reusable Medical EquipmentWorks closely with SPD to ensure availability of instruments so that clinical care is not delayedDemonstrates proper infection control procedures in exposing imagesUtilizes all proper PPE per national and local policiesFollows all hospital infection control protocols including hand hygieneAssists in filling gaps in the doctor's schedule due to late cancellations and failed appointmentsInitiates computerized progress noteAssists dentist in charting findings and treatment plans in patient recordsLocates/tracks all pending patient lab cases for use during patient appointmentsProperly completes all dental laboratory cardsMonitors patient vital signs (BP, pulse, pulse oximeter) and condition during invasive treatment and during recovery period following procedureApplies topical anesthetic at the injection site and applies topical fluorideMakes impressions for diagnostic casts and preliminary impressions for prosthetic fabricationRemoves plaque and soft debris from removable prosthesesProvides patient preventative education and oral hygiene instructionProvides post-operative and other appropriate patient educationPerforms related duties as assignedWork Schedule: Fayetteville- 4-10hours shift, Wilmington 9-9hour shiftsRecruitment/Relocation Incentives (Sign-on Bonus): Not AuthorizedPermanent Change of Station (Relocation Assistance): Not AuthorizedVirtual: This is not a virtual position.Functional Statement #: 00000Permanent Change of Station (PCS): Not Authorized
