SITE DESCRIPTION
Memorial Hospital is a vital force in establishing and maintaining the well-being of residents in
western Illinois and eastern Iowa. Our history of quality, compassionate care springs from
hometown pride and a commitment to excellence. The community celebrated the grand opening
of a new facility in July 2009. In October 2020, Memorial Hospital celebrated serving the
community for 70 years. Memorial Hospital offers 21st Century technology so critical to patient
care while reflecting the values and dedication to the community which helped the original
hospital open its doors in 1950. Memorial Hospital is an independent nonprofit Critical Access
Hospital governed by a Board of Directors. Memorial Hospital receives no income from local
sales or property taxes. Memorial is currently the second-largest employer in Hancock County.
COMMUNITY DESCRIPTION
Carthage, founded in 1837, is the county seat of Hancock County and is located in West Central
Illinois. The population is 2,490 as of the 2020 census. The historic downtown business district
is home to one of the most beautiful courthouses in the state. Carthage is a community with
proud roots in agriculture, business, education, healthcare, and family-friendly experiences. The
small-town atmosphere and established connectivity are attractive to large corporations, small
business owners, and young entrepreneurs. The combination of historical sites, recreation, and
tourist attractions appeals to visitors from near and far.
